FujiRacing 13B Rotary Miata Build

2 Attachment(s)
We are doing a Rotary swap in our Miata and wanted to show how it is done. We will be using the Miata in Time Attack events. Here is a little background on our Miata. 184 WHP Naturally Aspirated on Pump Gas, No other Miata has ever come close on pump gas In October of 2008 we won the overall Street Tire Class at VIR in the Redline Time Attack beating the M3 track record by over 2 seconds and beating the runner-up S2000 by over 2 seconds. Not only that we beat the AWD class cars and all the FWD cars like the EVO,STI,Integra, and Civic.
Then in July 2009 we won Modified at Nashville and a Viper was runner up. Then at Englishtown we beat a Solstice, Z06, and a 240SX. Some very well know drivers were in some of those cars. Then in Sept. of 2009 we went to Hallet Raceway on a 1.8 mile circuit and set the fastest time on 100 UTQG tires. The closest forced induction Miata's were over 3 seconds behind. All that was done with the Piston Motor. The Miata motor is good but not a World Class motor like the Rotary on the HP circuits.
I will be working with Raul Rodriguez on the 13B engine swap.
Ricardo Rivera will be making the custom mounts.
Attached is pictures of the car and engine we will be using
250~280 WHP Semi-PP is our goal with ITB's.

Should prove to be a fun ride.

So the goal of this is really to maintain the pump gas stipulation while jumping up another 70-100whp? I'm interested in this build as its something I'd like to do someday.. Good luck!

Great project, my dream project one day I hope. Good luck!

Any plans to keep the mounts and oil pan modification designs for a possible swap kit? I know there isn't much around any more for a rotary swap for a miata and it would raise some eyebrows...

Thanks! Basically we want to be just as fast if not faster in the corners. The Miata is so light that too much power just doesn't work and the extra 70~100 whp is for the straights. We want to go after the track record in class at Buttonwillow CW#13 with a [B]MAZDA[B] which is the benchmark track in the U.S. for the Time Attack. We may not stay with pump gas.
Attached is the motor we will use for the test fit for the custom Engine brackets.

We want to make it as easy as possible and want to offer a kit. We want to limit the amount of additional parts we use so we'll see. I owned a Miata in Japan from 1991-1997 and have always dreamed of a Rotary in a Miata:driving: So here we go.

EFI or Carb? Rotaries and Miatas are meant for eachother!

Just for giggles, here's my buddy's (Fris @ Lucky7Racing) Rotary Miata

Nice! I agree that Rotary engine is made for the Miata. We will be using our ITB's and go EFI using either Megasquirt or Microtech. Attached is pics of the AR-F Anniversary Racing Factory ITB kit that is the same as ours. I took the picture in Japan back in 2004. The one with the green intake manifold is my customer Sam's with our RX7 ITB kit. And our Miata.

Awesome stuff. Makes me want to build a super miata!

Nice!

Was kind of confused on your signature in your email heh. Looking forward to seeing the end result. Some of the prepped FI miatas run 1:55s around ButtonWillow on nt01s. I think with this setup you'll be able to grab the record. It'll give everyone something to shoot for!

What are you doing with your old BP cams, high CR pistons, the AEM EMS?

FujiRacing 12-31-2009 06:33 AM

With our 184 WHP on NT01's from what we gathered from a fellow competitor that ran 2:00 minutes on street tires that we had beaten we would have been close to the 1:55 at BW CW13. With Street tires 1:58 IMHO. With over 200 WHP ITB/Piston n/a you get the idea. S2000 with 140 UTQG tires did a 1:56. The Rotary is a world class motor and no matter what you do to the Miata BP motor it is only a 4 cyl.

Our Goal is to beat the n/a Modified RTA & SLB Record in Mod. @ BW CW 13. It may take a few years but we will try like heck and it will be with a 13B Miata or even a FC

IMO a FC or FD has potential to do 1:49 on NT01's?
Rotary in a Miata I have no idea but I do not think that it would even touch a FC-FD times.

The Head-cams-AEM is for sale along wit the ITB's. I want to find a good home for someone possibly a SCCA Natl. DP competitor. I will start getting the word out on the Scca forums.

Just came across this FB w/ Webers and the 3 Rotor FC. This is why we want to do a Rotary in a Miata and ITB's. Wow!!!

I'm sure you do your own fab work, but I happen to have a top hat and intake manifold for a 13B ITB setup :) if you're interested...

I was sad to hear Redline wont be coming back to NSS this year for IA :(

djmtsu 01-07-2010 12:50 PM

I don't get it. If Lucky7 Racing has a damn rotary miata, why don't they make a friggin kit???????

Go to any Miata forum and do a search for 'Rotary swap'

As long as you don't make it $3K (like Mazsport did) you would sell tons of them.

Customer #1 right here.
