/\ here's a trick I found when I was doing this:

clean the bearing races, and weld a flat tab to the bearing race.

hammer it out, then repeat on the other side.

press in new bearing races.

install bearings and put the hub onto the spindle.

torque hub down to spec to seat the bearings, give em a spin, etc.

loosen it

install wheel with the bearing "cap" off.

do the "wiggle" test on the bearing

tighten slowly,

repeat test,

keep doing this untill the wheel spins nice and smooth, but does not "jolt around" when you are wiggling the top and bottom of the wheel.

After this, you can use a pull scale if you are really paranoid, or just install the bolt "cap" using a new cotter pin, smack the cap back on, and put the wheel back on.

works wonderfull.
