Well here is Murrays new front bumper. Got her all done last week. I do have a run or two to sand out of it though. The clear got away from me :dunno:. I chalked it up to it being a different clear than im used to. It was pretty runny. it looks good other wise though.

ok so i have a minor dilemma. I got some s5 door panels that me and haukbeeb reupholstered. They are power window panels... now... my s4 is a base model with crank windows... i want to still utilize the manual windows because i just dont wanna deal with getting the stuff to make them power.
My problem is i dont think the crank will fit on the door panels because of the arm rest deal. Does anyone have any ideas on what i could do to make this work? Maybe an easy way to shorten the window crank? |
I know they had S5 cars with crank windows... it should clear honestly...
|
I guess i could give it a shot. guess ill never know till i punch the hole in it...

Weeeeel... My car is finally home. Got it out of my friend place only to find that there had been mice living in it all winter. Smells terrible in my car right now :icon_no2:.
I started pulling all of the interior today and getting it vacuumed out. Unfortunately i think im just going to have to junk most of the interior carpet pieces. I just dont think there is really a good way to get rid of the piss stains and the smell. So it looks like ill be buying new interior sometime down the road.:icon_bs: It is nice to have the car back though. I debated trying to get it running before the move but i just dont think thats really feasible right now. Ill be tinkering with it here and there until then though so if there is anything worthy of mention ill update. |
Man that white is so nice looking Kyle! I am just trying to imagine it with your super secret wheels on ;)
Thanks again for all the hard work on my bumper. Man that was a fun experience wasnt it lol :) |

Also no problem on your stuff. Thanks for being patient with me. It was fun painting that stuff. I have some of kyles to do this weekend and then his whole car soon to follow. I think I'm gonna talk to the guy here about using his place to paint it: |
Sooooo.......when are you moving to Tennessee??
There's RX-7's here that need some body work! |

Well guys after a very long disappearance im back. Army training has had me swamped but im stationed at Ft. Campbell so if there are any rotary friends around here you know where to find me. I dont have my car down here yet. Its still in MT until i get a house and a garage to keep it in.. should be moving out of the barracks soon as i just got married. When things start really rolling again ill get some more progress up on here.
Anyone know of some reliable car shippers i could go through to get the 7 down here? |
Great to hear from ya. Congrats on getting married.

yo! so I put the car on a couple stands last night in hopes to get some hub swapping underway. No such luck because I can't get the brake rotors off. I was hoping someone might have a good way to do this.. I know its really pretty straight forward but they are on there pretty good. The two screws that hold it to the hub are really stuck. Also.. Im wondering if the hubs i have are worth using or if i should try to find some nicer ones. What do you think?
|
From the looks of it, you're probably at the point of drilling them out. If you have access to a welder you could try cleaning up the head a little bit and welding a piece of metal on there, so you can get hold of it. That may not work either if it's really stuck. I would assume you've already cleaned up any threads showing out the back side with a wire brush and soaked it in penetrating oil.

Impact Driver hammer driven. Some PB blaster can help too.

Any advice on whether or not those hubs are worth a crap?
|
So i just checked mazdatrix... new 5 bolt hubs are $535 each... yuck... is there somewhere else i can get them cheaper?

Kyle......
Theres a few ways to get those fuckers off..... One.... take a cut off and turn the phillips into a common... if the common strips with a impact driver as Ransom suggested you have two options from there... drill the heads off or as Gunny suggested, weld a nut onto the totally fucked up head and use a socket to take them off. While Mazdatrix is usually totally useless and talking to them makes we want to punch kittens, the one good FAQ they have is bearing replacement. You can get the new bearings AND races for ~$60 for both sides (at least that's what I remember my cost was locally, I could be wrong) and then you just knock the old races out and replace EVERYTHING... they basically come out just like new.... good shit... I didn't look at the pics, but unless the hubs are bent and or cracked, no worries, they will be like new once the bearings are replaced. BTW - respond to mah PM!!! |
If those are mine they are off a 91 too mang.

Also... MY BAD! I guess i forgot to check my internet mailz :001_005: Quote:
Another separate question... is there a good non standard cleaning chemical that you use to clean up old parts... like rotors and housings? |
Quote:
Use some kind of oil to help with the cutting. You can use WD-40, Liquid Wrench, or even regular engine oil if that's all you have laying around. Quote:
Use Chem-Dip. I noticed our local Walmart started to carry this. Do NOT get this on your skin, so be very careful how you handle this stuff. For housings, I like to use a water-based cleaner like Zep purple industrial cleaner - at Home Depot. I also like the Oil Eater cleaner that Costco used to carry, but this stuff isn't too easy to find nowadays. I find the other cleaners like Simple Green, Super Clean, and Purple Power to be TOO WEAK. :( -Ted |

Scotch brite pad and lots a rubbing then.

I just scoured mazdatrix and corksport (whats left of it anyway) for all the brake, suspension and all that fun stuff underneath the car. I've made what i think is a pretty complete list... I'm pretty excited to get to working. I haven't been excited about working on the car like this for a while. |
To clean the hubs and dust covers makes it easier.
They are fun Or haunt yer dreams whichever.... |
