Geeeeeeeeeeeez

TitaniumTT 01-15-2011 02:07 AM

Yup. And by the time I start, I'll have a mere 100 days.... weeeeee!!!!!! I think DJ and I need to keep track of how much RedBull we each drink :smilielol5:

helghast7 01-15-2011 03:18 AM

dayum dude,

whats wrong with your front calipers? i just found out that one piston in each of my fronts is sticking on the fc...so i need new ones fml

let me know how the repair goes on the wiper switch, if you can do it and its not a 100% pita ill send you over a couple...one for me since mines broke...and the rest you can sell to people that have the same issues lol

i bought like 2 spares and they all have the same damn problem :( lol

intermidiate doesnt work and washer barely works...but speed 1 and 2 both work...idk lol

I am not a super fan of Red Bull (don't hate) but I do love me some coffee! Too bad I'll be taking piss breaks every 5 minutes!

Hmmm... something his missing from that list.

Also, can you explain #36?

The whole braking system needs to be re-evaluated. After driving the dragon 3 times in a row the brakes started fading big time. So it's time to address it.

I may need to grab those switchs from you as mine completely failed. I had to de-pin some of the harness and run it to an on-off-mom on switch and ground the common pin. So for the last 2 years I've been driving around with a toggle switch for my wipers. Not the most important thing in the world but it does piss me off..... alot.

#36 - paintball guns mounted in the front bumper :D

What's missing? Single turbo swap? I don't think I have the time for that before DGRRXI. I'll assemble a Cosmo over the summer and start building the manifold and make it a drop in affair so the car's not down for a few months over the summer.

So what's missing? Besides Center Console arm rest, fix remote start? Which have been added

helghast7 01-15-2011 11:20 AM

no problem, ive got at least 2 i think lying around somewere, when i find them ill let you know

its such a pita that they go bad, stupid 23 year old relays lol, even worse at how expensive the switches are, lucky for me, speed 1 still works, but if i click down for mist and let go half the time the wipers get stuck in whatever position they were just in..and intermittent stopped working all together

lmao about the paintball gun thing, if ya had the room that would be sick to have them pop up from the hood, going in paint blazing!!

TitaniumTT 01-15-2011 12:10 PM

That would be awesome man, as mine is totally fucked and I don't have a spare. I'm sure we can work something out ;)

I'm only kidding about the paintball guns, a few years ago when the population in SW CT boomed, people were just total assholes, now they're only 1/2 assholes so they're not really needed ..... as much

hades 01-15-2011 01:03 PM

VGT - do it.

TitaniumTT 01-15-2011 01:08 PM

I will, just whether or not it'll be on in time for DGRRXI is a totally seperate question.

helghast7 01-15-2011 01:45 PM

see what drives me nuts about turbos is i once read about a turbo being developed similar to what your looking into except they designed it more like the way a fighter jet vectors its thrusters, but ever since then i cant find any information about it, it literally had moving plates that channeled the exhaust gases in the dp

i wish i new what happened to it, it seemed like a very promising idea

I think I know what you're talking about. It wasn't in the DP though, and if that's the one you're talking about, that's the one I'll be putting on the ole' FC.

 Ya gotta love RCC, the only forum I know of where you can waltz into an Admins build thread, call him a pussy, and get laughed at..... don't push it though... pussy :smash:

You just want me to do it so that you can get a 14 hr ride in it ;) I'm not sure if I'll have the time. I might call this guy and see if I can commission him to build one for me. Once I get all the important shit squared away, I'll start focusing on it, that's for damn sure.

yea i wasnt quite sure were exactly it was, i no it was different then all the other ones we've talked about it the past though, i only ever saw one picture of it and it was one of those pictures of just the turbo with nothing attached to it...so i guess i broke the rules and assumed haha

lmao!! oh my god did bdc make that?!?!

hades 01-16-2011 11:09 AM

are you tearing down the motor again?

TitaniumTT 01-16-2011 11:19 AM

I've got to pull it to do some touch up paint work in the engine bay. And I've got to pull the turbo's to port the wastegate. When I do that I'll take the mani off and see what kind of shape the sleeve is in. If the sleeve is solid, I won't. If the sleeve seems loose or if it shifted at all, or if there are signs of an exhaust leak, they yes, motor comes apart again. I've got one good REW housing, so if the sleeve is in bad shape I'll either need to find a comparable REW housing, a comparable RE housing, or take 2 of my n/a housings to Goopy for that resurfacing treatment.

As of right now though, the only things that I need to do to the engine are re-work the harness slightly to add a fuel temp sensor, and change out the intake mani gaskets. Mazdatrix didn't have them in stock so I had to re-use the old ones.... it bothers me.

Yup, the one I'm looking at accomplishes the same thing, but goes about it in a very different way. One that I think will work better given the rotaries heat. So we'll see. I'd love to have it in for DGRRXI, but time will probably be against me.

Someone from handuhtech... bdc can't weld at all last I heard. That is probably one of the worst welding jobs I've EVER seen though.

hades 01-16-2011 11:25 AM

why are you worried about fuel temp?

TitaniumTT 01-16-2011 11:37 AM

Curious more than anything. Plus there is a seperate comp table that I can use to compensate for high fuel temps. Thought being hot fuel expands, less actual molecules, potential to run lean etc etc. Not a big deal unless you're on the ragged edge of the tune, which I'm not, but still I'm curious to see where it goes.

Oh yeah, forgot to add, when I pull the exhaust mani, I've got to add in an EGT probe.

Soooooooo... We finally got that CUCV up and running and I was finally able to start on the FC. First thing.... put the list up on the wall :smilielol5:

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193051

If anybody uses an Optima battery, they know that they like to die, and die fast when left to thier own demise. I've got a batter cut off switch so that when the switch is turned off, the only circuits with power are the alarm, horn, PW, PDL, and the radio memory. If she sits for a few weeks, the battery is stone dead. Sooooooo, after getting one replaced on warranty I picked up this little gem and mounted it on the wall.

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193051

Now, how to connect it to the car? Well, the little kit comes with an adapter that has a pair of aligator clips on them. Ok, maybe.... but that means I need to put the passenger seat forward, pull the lid off the storage bin lid, lean in, clamp them on, hope they don't fall off etc etc etc. Royal PITA. luckily, they have a little adapter that you can hardwire to the battery. Cool shit, it even has a little fuse there. 15A, interesting but I'm not going to argue or try to reinvent it.

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193051

I've got my battery mounted in the passenger side bin, and mounted rather snugly. I've got a powerpost in plain view for the various grounds, to bat, to chassis, to jumper, to amp, to fuel pump, and now to charger... cool. Coming off the battery I've got a 2ga cable that runs right to that main breaker. From there it goes to the remote bat switch and splits from there to go to a bunch of different places. So, seeing as how this is already fused, the best place to wire it up is going to be on the line side of the main breaker. One of my BIGGEST complaints about other peoples wiring is when they stack shit on battery terminals. I fucking hate it. I've seen boats sink becuase of it, fires almost start etc etc etc.... One of my rules is one cable per terminal. So it's going on the breaker

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193051

And here is the connector mounted on a little bracket that I threw together.

I mounted it near the battery on the fiberglass uprights. If that fuse blows, it's going to be a royal PITA to change it. I'd much rather be able to easiy get to it rather than take the battery out, maybe even the fiberglass.... so were going to mount up a 15A marine breaker that I happened to have kicking around. I would've rather used a push-button breaker but I didn't have one, and the chandlery store was closed, waytek, terminal supply, delcity etc etc would've been a few days out so I said fuck it and used the breaker. If the carpet trips it I'll either get a shield for it or swap it out. I don't see it being a problem when the connector is plugged it.

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193469

and there it is plugged in.... weeeeeee I finally got something done :ugh2:

Just for fun.... we were supposed to get 5-8" of snow. Finally tally that I measured was 17".... way to go guys. Regardless.... 3 hours of shoveling so I could get the FC out to make it to the dyno on Saturday... hint hint hint.....

That little mound over there is the 'vert under a car cover. It'll be MONTHS before that pile melts to get that car out... damn..

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193943

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193943

Last night I figured I'd do a little on the FC, then move some cars around and get my truck off the street. By the time I was in a position to get the FC out, there was already 6+" on the ground. I wasn't about to shovel that shit out, couldn't if I wanted to, was coming down to fast, so she sat on the street overnight, and of course I got plowed in. I LOVE this truck, all I did was toss her in 4-hi, rocked back once, and drove out. Then I went down to the beach to play around in some un-plowed parking lots. I tried to get the thing stuck and I couldn't.... I love my XJ.

Maybe going through this whole thread in one night was crazy... Mmm definitely not. Your car is amazing TTT, the work and dedication are something so few owners have with FC's, glad to see there's people out there still willing to take them all the way. Great build up brotha, I'll definitely be stickin' around this thread to see what else is happening! Love the fab!

Thanks man, I appreciate it! There will be a ton of shit in the coming weeks for sho!

So I figured I'd bump this thread with what I've done to the car in the past three weeks

First was some playtime on the dyno,
Then I repainted the hood after an unfortuneate incident with an engine hoist and some rocks at high rates of speed.

Then

I

Washed

It.

And that's about it.... the RX7's vehicular nemisis is taking up too much time, I'll get some pics up of that motherfucker tomorrow. The big push is to get this done in the next 3 weeks so I can rock on the FC before we start getting really busy at work around April...... tight tight as always

Force13b 02-21-2011 11:18 AM

Brian what ever happened to the great coil dyno off?

TitaniumTT 02-21-2011 11:42 AM

It's taking place in smaller stages. So far we've pitted the Bosch coils against a $1500 M&W ignition system and then against the Quicksilver coils.

The M&W setup gained about 3hp over the Boschs across the board, but the idle sucked balls. Regardless of what we did, including mult-stike, I couldn't get a decent idle. THe Bosch's idled the car perfectly with a 0 (Zero as in nothing) dwell time and didn't start misfiring until about 3k.

The quicksilver coils impressed the hell out of me. We we're tuning my car when we started running out of time so she was running WAY rich, which is a good comparision in one way. The Bosch's were getting a little breakup up high and still putting down 380 rwhp. Bolted the quicksilvers on and the breakup went away, and she picked up 4hp up high where we were getting the breakup. BUT, there was no difference in the low to mid ranges where there was no breakup. They are a STOUT coil. I was running those with a 3.5ms Dwell time as Chris Ludwig told me to do, he loves these coils and rightfully so, the Bosch coils where set to 2.4ms. So I'd be curious as to if increasing the dwell time would get rid of the break-up.... didn't think of that until after the fact though.... oh well. I still love my Boschs becuase they are so damn small and need such little dwell time. I would love to get the car dialed in and go back and test the Bosch vs the Quicksilver again because I think they are that close. The Quicksilvers I think would be an upgrade to the Boschs if you're running water or meth or you're like bdc and think that running .7L is safe

Now, we also had two RX8's there. One running LS2 coils, the other running the Quicksilver coils. LS2 coils put down 187, Quicksilver car put down 194. Different cars so not really a good test, but I will say I contacted BHR about 'renting' a set of LS2 coils for this test. I told them I would give them all the data I have so they can publish it on their website so they can show an increase in RWHP with the RX8 coils vs the LS2 coils. They told me flat out that they already dyno'ed them back to back and they intentionally did not post the results. That to me tells me that the difference in RWHP between the RX8 coils and the LS2 coils is little to none, so I tend to think that the LS2 coils don't make THAT much of an improvement. Glenn is going to send me a set of LS2 coils when I get my shit together and head back to the dyno. We got another 6" of snow last night so it won't be for a while

Brian my coils are available for as much testing as you want to do until the day I bolt them into my car after that they will be harder to part with. I had to talk myself out of installing them in my FD this week.

Cool! Thanks MC. I don't think the testing will be done until after Deals though... not sure when you're planning on putting them on but I'm sure we'll figure something out.

Yeah, we got more snow yesterday, and everything that started to melt froze, so it's pretty solid. Didn't even leave any tread marks that time. Later in the day I parked nose first. The rotaries nemesis!!! AHHHHAHAHAAAHAAHAAAA Got maybe 3 more weeks on this mother until I can really start cranking on the ole' 7. The paint failed on the firewall. PO who "restored" the righ hired a proffessional painter who skipped the whole Galanizing prep and self etching primer. The paint was literally falling off.... and in big chunks too... 6"x6" and sometimes larger. When we prepped it, we never once needed a piece of sandpaper. All we did was scrape it all off

That and I'll be completely redoing the totally abysmal factory wiring. It'll be full Raychem and mil spec by the time I'm done. I dare say it'll be the nicest wired Landi EVER!!!!! HAAHAAHAHAA!!!! EVER!!!!!
