Rotaries need to be run hard once in a while. So do piston engines, actually, but rotaries more so. If you ever open up an engine driven by a 'grandma' type driver, it will be carbon encrusted all over because it was babied so much that carbon had every opportunity to stick where it doesn't belong (and it doesn't belong anywhere in an engine). Driving it harder, but maybe not redlining, may be a decent alternative, and you can perform water treatments to help rid the motor of carbon, but really these cars were designed to redline, they do it readily and happily. Redlining is like an orgasm to a rotary, the more you please the RX-7, the more it will please you :001_005: That is, if the car is healthy enough for sex. Dirty injectors, bad grounds, leaks, low compression, low fluids, are all ailments that should be remedied before resuming aggressive intimacy, but once you do you'll quickly be reminded why you married her ;)

hahaha
For that reason I make sure I don't do stuff like that when I have tools on the car. I don't want a wrench in my pulleys or gouge my radiator or something.
