well they hold up better to the heat (I'm sure you saw some brittle lines during your teardown), are self lubricating, less likely to kink and doesn't tear as easily. The oil and gas tolerance is an issue but you really should try to keep your engine bay clean. If you are getting oil on the lines then you need to find the leak before the motor dies (same applies to the gas).

As far as the rice-a-roni look? I was planning on using multiple colors so others could see where the emissions vacuum lines are, along with the turbo, manifold and other engine lines.

I can save a few bucks but I've learned that cheaping out doesn't pan out for me. I end up replacing the same thing multiple times.

Hmm, wow, that is an interesting idea! Ok, if i find silicone in BLACK, then I might do this later as well, when I have extra money i dont mind spending.

And as far as someone mentioning silicone being inferior to any type of other hose available - not a chance.

Provided its ACTUALLY silicone, and not that "silicone" shit that you buy in a box at Autozone - it will probably outlast your car.

My turbo oil drain is pure silicone, 5/8", and has been through 5 engines and over 35,000km's in total. I just pulled it off and its still fine......this is an OIL DRAIN, so its constantly full of 180* + oil and sits beside my 1500F exhaust manifold (although I wrapped it where its close)

Definetly no disadvangtes running it.

My vac lines are black silicone/viton mix. Bought through speedmachine back in the day (the fact that I bought them from Speedmachine should tell you how long they've been in service :lol:) and have been on and off more times then I can count, and been driven as many miles as the oil drain.

it has to be special silicone since it's an oil line?

Well I'm not sure. It IS for oil drain, so I'm sure its thicker/whatnot. More then anything its just oversized....5/8 silicone hose isn't exactly common. But regardless of whether its special or not - its silicone. Stinky ass silicone! :lol: (thats how I judge silicone quality, the stinkier the better :rofl:.........seriously)
