the pass window will not budge with the driver side switch...

I have close to the same problem only the passenger side wont work for either switch now, it was working fine, i rolled the window up and that was it, it wont budge up or down now. Wont even try to move

1) Clean power window motor (they almost NEVER fail)
2) Use graphite lube on all the friction surfaces.
3) Make sure you are not plugging the door light plug into the window motor ( ask me how I know :) )

If all else fails, clean and re-clean the drivers side switch.

what would be good to clean it with?

djmtsu 06-10-2009 09:19 AM

For the switches, take them out of the door panel, remove the 2 screws on the bottom. There are 2 little metal v-ish shaped contacts that rock back and forth. Luckily they are keyed so they only go in one way. I use a little fine sandpaper to clean them with some rubbing alcohol.

Has worked for me everytime!

what about the motors themselves?

i also heard the s4 switches are rebuildable...is there a write up on this anywhere?

Thats how you rebuild them, just did that in my tenth ann. The previous owner told me the motor was bad and some wiring was screwed. Works fine now after cleaning the switch.

!!! Theres 3 screws, 1 on either end and 1 in the middle. Just caught that. But other than that hes exactly right. Also clean the v shaped pieces and the contacts that they touch, and dont forget if its the drivers side to do the same with the part that controls power to the passenger side switch

My contacts were worn beyond repair. I'm in the process (granted it's taken me over a year so far) of making my own switches with some modular rocker switches. I have to actually find the rockers I like then some plexiglass to install them into, but I've gotten both driver and passenger sides to work using some temporary rockers that are a little too big for my tastes.
