I like the BMW ones for sure.
I also like the saab ones for the awesome factor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xasj1SbCiTA Not cheap but not bad: http://www.saabusaparts.com/catalog/...b1vsam533lgck2 |
wtf?? why is it cheaper with the onstar cutout? that makes no sense, yes its less material but i would think the price of the second mold would make it more expensive

Found this little gem  |
As long as you can avoid the auto-retracting, you are good to go!

^TTT
Actually the idea of using a cd-rom mechanism from a computer might work. I do quite a bit of computer hardware tinkering. I've taken cd/dvd-rom apart before to fix a broken door. That is if you had the depth in the dash. |
the main concern with that, as with any one we decide to use is; will the plastic be able to handle a full drink, and will the mounts be able to hold the assembly with the drink

redbull and vodkas are :)

i actually have a good one that i just discovered today while working on my bosses car
rx300 has a center arm rest cup holder that fits 2 cups, its a pop open one and is super shallow because of it, you should be able to integrate it into the fc's center arm rest and still have the storage bin functional though i cant say how comfortable it would be with two cups there since you cant use the arm rest anymore sacrifices sacrifices ill take pics when i go back to work on monday |

I sat in a Saab at the auto show for 15 minutes, playing with those cup holders... I freaking love them, and even though they have a odd design the execution is still quite smooth... now that I know where to get them, I might have to incorporate them into my car.... J. |
I have no read this thread, just saw it, but some of the most compact cupholders in an OEM are from Saab and VW.
The vertical mounting of the Saab holder is probably ideal for going beside the radio.... http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....der_detail.jpg Those ones are Saab 9-5....2005ish. |
this is my girlfriend. she works pretty good.

I remember TT saying something about the Audi A4 cup holders.
http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/t...cupholders.jpg http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/t.../cupholder.jpg I know you said you didn't want to get rid of the vents, but you could just do one side not both. I see these on Ebay all the time. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1996-...ts_Accessories |

I would totally rock that cup holder if I could find one, girls would love it! :D Quote:

I dont know about you guys but these have always been my favourite cup holders(see below).
But no one has commented on the idea I have had for a while so it might still be original. My plan was to use the already present storage space on the door panel but to cut out a portion at one of the ends and put in a square type cup(see below) holder and box it in. Then take a piece of the material from a donor car and glue it on so it looks stock. |

That could work, but that one time you forget to take the beverage (or your passenger) and open and close the door, your car will have a nice (insert whatever beverage you were drinking *smell* and possible stickiness) other then that, I say its a great idea... someone just needs to do it :P J. |
Yeah, it won't be me. If got those shitty custom fiberglass door panels. I like the snab ones, and the audi ones that rotordad posted I was looking at getting and mounting in just that fashion.
The snab ones would be tougher and have to be mounted on the drivers side only because of my GPS..... meh, I'll get it done, but seeing as how I have a housing at the machine shop right now, I've got bigger projects ;) |

What about this pop-up holder listed farther down the page of Saab parts.
http://www.saabusaparts.com/catalog/...b1vsam533lgck2 Click down, click up. Might be nice and discrete molded into (or next to) the center console. |

idk about you guys but i like when stuff looks like its supposed to be there Quote:
and the fd definetly doesnt have any space on the doors, too tight |
On the topic of computer parts. What about one of these? They are close to standard din size + cigarette outlet.

I gots no din available under the stereo which is where the challange comes from
|
so how is this coming along?

completely off topic but is that the interior of your car? If so i MUST know where you got those gauges...:drool5: Brian.. more time driving, less time drinking.. .problem solved  |
Still looking for some cupholders. But that Audi deal is exactely what I'm after.
|
And not my car no, first of all it's a RHD, second, I have a digital dash

Ive seen enough pics of your car to draw the damn thing.. im obsessed haha. Im still curious about those gauges though. |
btw brian, it just popped back into my head i have another little gift for you next time i see you, i snagged it before it hit the trash last week...ill give you 2 hints, it has to do with this topic, and its made by bmw
im not sure if your actually going to use it or even want it but i figured its always easier to get an idea in your head when you can hold something solid instead of just looking at pics....and at 80 dollars a pop this was the easiest way to get one...even if it is...damaged goods lol |
Possible temporary solution.
Build a wooden block of such shape to fill the inside of the center console. Design cup holder into block of wood. This way when you want the cup holder you open the center console, dig out whatever is in there, put the wood piece in, put the crap that was in there in the front of the wood piece and the drink in the back. No screws, no fuss, disappears in a second (out the window?). |
This is for a Miata and DJ is the one that told me about it, but it places the cup holders basically where I was thinking with my prior post. It's really not in the way of a passenger.

Nah, I don't do temp very well, its still high on the list of shit to do though
|
Another Idea.
1997-2003 BMW E39 rear retractable cup holders. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...zL._SS500_.jpg |

I have an idea, and it won't take ages to make work. I'll see what I can do while I'm in this class. |

TTT; this is what I was thinking: bend a sheet similar to this. Drill large holes, and lathe some redbull inserts out of rubber or delrin or aluminum.
|
Those would work, but they require a din panel which I don't have....

BUMP!
I need to get something figured out, it drives me nuts |
^ Yea def need to get something in order for myself here soon, my cup holder is leaving for a little bit to finish up school. lol.
Zack |
I got it figured out, just need to break down and spend the $100 on the holders and install them..... other things are more important though, like brakes ;)
