the new turbo, flanges are getting made this week http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...y/hoodfits.jpg Its hard to tell but the engine is about 1cm below the hood line so the stock hood can now close and i won't have to drive around with a large hole anymore :hurray: |
|
Sweet. Looking better and better!
|
Haha! That is pure awesome! Can't imagine what people think when an RX-7 comes blazing through smelling diesel!
|
This is a super cool build thread man. I'm glad the engine is much lower now. At first i was like meh, then i was like now it just got cool.
|
i wanna ride in it!! that would just be the coolest thing to take to DGRR and run the whole weekend without putting fuel in it :D
i like the build man, i have mulled over a TDI FB myself as a daily driver that isnt FWD and stupid, but has style and kick ass mpg |
After taking a very long extended stay in the garage I have finally made progress toward getting this project finished and on the road.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ieselrx7-1.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...selrx7-2-2.jpg sizing up a radiator and intercooler http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ieselrx7-3.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ieselrx7-4.jpg new mounts before going at them with the angle grinder Best part, in combo with the new engine mounts and notched sub frame the hood closes with the engine inside! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...ieselrx7-5.jpg |
hoping to have it out for testing with the new turbo by the end of the month!
|
Good deal. I was beginning to think you'd given up on it.

woo! i was curious what had happened to this thing.

Did some work this weekend, after almost four years of mostly sitting in my garage the diesel is ready for road testing.
engine out again due to a bad oil pan seal- http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../diesel7-3.jpg Back together http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../diesel7-9.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../diesel7-7.jpg the old hood, no more hole needed! http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../diesel7-6.jpg 12 gallon plastic fuel cell has replaced the stock tank, I'll be running 100% biodiesel all the time and a rusty old gas tank would get eaten up pretty fast http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../diesel7-8.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../diesel7-1.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3.../diesel7-4.jpg I wanted to simplify things and get some miles on this before the next upgrade so It will be run NA for a while. next step is eventually adding the turbo back on and running a hybrid propane biodiesel mix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVZZVnI9l3c |
needs more turbo!

Pretty much the end of the main project. I just put the 1,000 mile on the rx7 and its running better than ever, clocking about 40mpg mostly city. took practically four years from this http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...y/SAM_0376.jpg to this http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...odieselrx1.jpg |
I brought this with me last year during my move to Oregon and have been daily driving it for about 9000 miles now. Its surprisingly a lot of fun. I'm running about 12psi and it spools pretty fast. 0-60 is down to a solid 10second but it tops out around 90mph, its still a slow diesel. I get about 400-430 miles on each tank (10 gallon) so the fuel economy is fantastic.
it started non-turbo @59hp, I can't wait to get it get it on a dyno and see if I made it to 100hp yet :driving: http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/IMG_0661.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...SizeRender.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/IMG_0659.jpg |
i still find myself liking this project. Ive eyed the om602 but id likely just keep in in the w201 body.

i have a om603 w124 daily, and for what its worth, the om606 is superior. I dont think we really got the om605 here....

I've finally worked out all the kinks in this project and wanted to see what it could handle so I took it on a 900mile camping trip with a friend of mine out to eastern Oregon and northern Nevada. It made it without incident over the snow covered cascades and reached a max elevation of 6800ft!
I'm running studded snow tires so it handled the snow packed mountain roads with ease. Averaged 38mpg  http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/DSC_0370.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...y/DSC_0393.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...C_0375%201.jpg |
Damn that's cool lol. Gotta love that MPG.
|
8 years later it still runs and I’m still basically daily driving it. I’ve put about 40,000 miles on it thus far with no major breakdowns after about the 2000 mile mark. I keep thinking I should swap in something else but this thing is just indestructible. The only weakness is temps below 20 degrees.
|
MAN! I forgot all about this project! Good to hear it's still going strong.
