y not? well other than messing with electrical i would think it be pretty easy since granny speed sells chevy v6 kits and the engine bolts up to a t-5 transmission.. and you can get some pretty amazing Hp off of them for not too much cash.

A friend of mine had a 3800 supercharged Regal. He was pretty into the car, so we spent a weekend at a track with nothing but these cars. 15 Supercharged 3800's. Out of those 15, 11 of them blew up. All that was done was a pulley upgrade and fender well intakes on every one of them, with a tune. I'd think about what happens when the engine gets modified before sticking it into a car.

Wow thats nuts.. ive seen quit a few run some insane Hp and run daily driven for years... bad tunes? stupid drivers? Intense racing and ZZ Performance have done some crazy stuff with their and customers cars that run for a long time. Thats just weird that so many popped at the track

Intense is actually one of the companies that were at the track and blew up. ZZ Performance sounds familiar as well. All I know for certain is that turned a lot of the guys at the track that weekend against Intense. A lot of them.

I just remembered. The weekend was Intense Drag Days a couple years back. Perhaps they've sorted their shit out since then, but that one weekend I saw more piston engines blow up than I've ever saw rotaries blow up in person, and that is exactly why I'm so against 3800's.

This same friend also went through three 3800 Supercharged engines and four transmissions in his Regal. His car was tuned by a guy who used to run Regals as well, but found them to be so problematic that he switched to a Cobalt SS. He now runs 12's in his Cobalt SS, Rob I believe to be his name (not sure what his last name is).

Nice! was it an IDD at Norwalk? and the FWD tannys for those cars were junk to begin with IMO... but ive never heard to many stories of 3800 popping like that.. hmm food for thought

Nutsid 04-22-2008 04:16 PM

Actually, I do believe it was in Norwalk. I can't really remember. I just remember catching a ton of shit for wearing an rx7club hoodie to a 3800 supercharged meet, so I spent more time on my laptop than hanging out with the guys. lol

lol im slowly converting piston guys i know and explaining them the power of the doritos.... im just waiting for my cousin to get his NA 300z moving so i can put him in his place already lol

Nutsid 04-22-2008 04:44 PM

I'm just interested in a bunch of odd things, like rotaries, or flat sixes. lol. I have nothing against piston engines at all. If I were more a gearhead than I am an engineering fan, I'd almost consider dropping a ecotec into an FB or something of the like. Ecotecs are some really amazing engines, but meh, doesn't move me at all. The fact that rotaries took/take so much engineering to get them to function for as long as they do is enough to make me lust after them more than anything else. lol And boxer engines are just straight up cool, haha.

I have a GTP with the L67 supercharged motor. Great car, super fast for a 4 door. I haven't modded it though, thinking about trading it for an RX-8.

I absolutely love my Rx8. Great car, and tons of fun. My only real complaint is the obvious bad gas mileage. I actually had to spend about eleven hours in it yesterday, and the comfort was good the entire time. It isn't the quickest car in the world, either, but it has enough speed to be fun for sure.

warwickben 05-07-2008 05:36 PM

Turbo vw 07-15-2008 04:58 PM

i dont know if its been sed yet but i was thanking about puting a vg30dett in one a wille back just a slightly moded motor

djmtsu 07-15-2008 07:14 PM

That is a pretty wide block to put in there. I think it has been done though.

I wish I had money, I would put either an E36 M3, or an E39 M5 BMW engine in one.

Torquey and flat power.

85rx-7gsl-se 07-15-2008 07:51 PM

I think Z31 VG30DET have been done, but I am not sure if the actually TTs will fit without shock tower mods?

Whizbang 07-16-2008 08:34 AM

i have a few ideas, some have been mentioned, but at the same time, i already have engines and chassis floating around.

1. 2.3T. i have one engine at my shop, and another at my friends yard. I have been back and forth on using this thing, or just selling it seeing i got the whole thing for real cheap.

2. The reason i am not thinking about using the 2.3 is because i want to use the FE3. Sure, most people say it wasn't available here and only in FWD overseas. BUT it was the engine, in RWD format, in the 99-04 Kia Sportages that we find our 4.778 gears from.

why, well here is a comparison of Fe3 rods to Sr20 rods.

3. cummins? lol

djmtsu 07-16-2008 08:56 AM

FE3 is the daddy swap for the 2g 626's (like mine!!)

I would like to put a stout F2T in one, but the DIS is a PITA to use a standalone with (Megasquirt), and F-CON is impossible to locate here in the states as well. If you convert to the distributor from an NA, you run into clearance issues with the firewall.

hammer??

warwickben 07-25-2008 11:01 PM

whats the deal with fe3/f3t never heard of these

djmtsu 07-26-2008 09:00 AM

The FE3 is the JDM 2.0L DOHC 4 cylinder Mazda put in the 626's. It is a very stout engine, and can take alot of power. Mazda later used the design in the Miata's, and Kia 'stole' it for the Sportages. There is no FE3T (turbo), only the F2T.

this is a odd post for me not sure if this is the right place, but has any one out side of pro rally guys made a rx7 awd? also any one heard of some one putting a 12a/13b in to a awd car.

SouthSideSlider 09-13-2008 02:34 PM

anyone thought of making a CA20DET powered FC? you can get a CA20E fro stanza's and S12 200SX's and do a head swap fr a CA18DET head.

misthael 09-13-2008 03:30 PM

I'd like to see an Escort RS Cosworth drive train shoved into a pre '86 rotary car.

My ex-roommate was working on putting a VH45 from an Infinity Q45 in his 2nd gen.

There have been theories of how to do an AWD, the Pikes Peak rotaries were one off customs.

I would venture to say it would be easier to put a rotary into a B-Series 4wd or a first gen MPV All Wheel Drive.

Think about all the spindles/hubs, etc you have to adapt to fit into an FC or FB. Then think about where you would find room for a transfer case.

warwickben 09-14-2008 04:58 PM

heck to make one awd i think it mite as well be easier to cut off the whole front end of a rx7 and a awd car. and just make a custom tubular front end.

djmtsu 09-14-2008 07:01 PM

That is what they did for the Pikes Peak RX-7's. Tubular frame from the firewall forward tied into the roll cage (from what pictures show). The FC was also rocking a 3 rotor.

djmtsu 09-14-2008 07:10 PM

What I could find.

id so love to do this my self but with my luck it wouldn't go straight lol.

Whizbang 09-17-2008 07:38 AM

i have some pictures of some of the setups.

Whizbang 09-17-2008 07:51 AM

at any rate, the only swap that i would consider aside from another rotary would be a form of I4 that had good support with the after market. After seeing the local guy do the 4G63(4) swap into an FC3S, i think that might be a very interesting way to go. The motor is very durable when used correctly and parts are extremely common and cheap.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...mb/rx7swap.jpg

Whizbang 09-17-2008 09:23 PM

The other swap would be the FE3.

Its all mazda and the turbo II trans can bolt to it via a B2000/2200 bellhousing

these are the FE3 rods next to an Sr20 rod

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Bomb/rods1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2..._Bomb/rods.jpg

warwickben 09-23-2008 04:30 AM

wow any specs on the dront end trans of that car? the awd rotary.

Whizbang 09-23-2008 07:33 AM

im not sure but i have a hunch that the transmission is a mazda truck transmission seeing how both the smooth case and the R transmissions come in 4x4 truck variants. The front differential i could say. Doesnt quite look aftermarket...
