That sucks about the M3. I know how he feels. My FD was backed into Saturday night at the pizza dinner. I'm almost positive it was the truck parked in front of me. It cracked the nose and put a 4 inch scratch in the paint.

I'm OK with getting rid of the lame asses...

wow, i didn't know that happened too. Geesh sorry to hear! :(
I can't stand people that don't have respect for others property! :beatdeadhorse5:

This sucks. I hope whoever did it is caught. That is a damn nice M3.

It sad that people like doing stupid stuff like that ruin things for everyone else.... shouldn't have to be worried about your car getting keyed at an event full of people who all share a love for their cars. It doesn't matter whether the car is a rotary or not its a nice car no matter what. You would think people would respect that, being at a car event. Its just sad. Hope you find out who did it.

I better go check the Volvo to make sure it didn't get keyed either. Some douchebags moved it from my cabin to the lodge overnight Saturday, so it could have been a victim as well.

But, it sounds like maybe someone had a grudge. Which M3? The old one or the newer one?

The mentioned douche bags for the Volvo would be me. It was nothing more than a harmless prank played out by me as payback for being the canvass for a pair of individuals with a Sharpie in hand to thoroughly decorate from head to toe. Childish I do admit but no harm was done. DJ wasn't alone in this. My5aBaby also received payback. Again, no harm done.

Oh yeah, it should also be noted that recipients and I stayed in the same cabin so it's not assumed that I broke into anyone's cabin!

So yesterday I found a scratch starting on the passenger front fender, running the length of the car, stopping just before the fuel door.

I don't know if it is coincidence, or if the Volvo was a victim as well.

WTF...
For an event that's gaining a lot of steam and is potentially getting picked up by Mazda USA, someone REALLY wants it to die in terms of a public event...

I'm sure Mazda would love to sponsor an event where it's patrons were destroying property...

Herblenny 04-20-2010 07:26 AM

Playing a harmless prank on close friend vs. what it appears to be hatred towards non-rotary vehicle is unacceptable at DGRR.

DJ, can you post picture(s) of your scratch? I'm also wondering if its possibly the cause of a tree branch or some random things on the road that might of cause this issue.

Either case, if its in fact cause by some idiot deliberately keying piston engined cars, I'm going to give one more year and if we have another round of this kind of BS, I'm going to make this event INVITE ONLY and with very selective criteria (age, how long you've owned your car, etc). I rather have less people whom are more serious about the event than try to have as many people as possible. I'm sure some of you also agree with this as I'm sure you yourself don't want to watch over your shoulder all the time by bringing your daily because your car isn't ready. I'm also going to check my TL to see if I've got some sort of damage from all this.

I am kinda wondering the same thing. My scratch looks like it starts a little aggressive, then gets lighter. But I have never had a shrub make a scratch like this.

I will get some pictures tonight when I get home from work, I drove the RX-8 today.

Herblenny 04-20-2010 08:54 AM

Really.. damn.. When I get home, I'm going to check my car.

WTF dj who would of keyed the volva. the vandals should of known the old people that owned it were just on there vacation from florida.

Thats pretty shitty and kind of sad if this is playing out to where all the piston cars got keyed. Hope yall figure out the guy who did this cause thats just dumb and disrespectful.

reddozen 04-20-2010 11:50 AM

I just remembered something.

Adler, do you remember Jess talking about those guys that were really aggressive about him getting his bikes away from the lodge cause it was a "rotary event"?

I wonder if it could be related...

Not at all but i also don't see how anyone could be "aggressive" towards jess. I'll ask zach to talk to jess maybe he remembers what they look like or something.

Hi everyone,

I am the M3 guy. Philip emailed me about this, and I want to thank him and you all so much for all your thoughts. My friend David (War Eagle on the forum) who invited me to come to DGRRX this year called me last night to tell me that folks are really upset about this, wanting to raise money, etc. I really appreciate that, and I am touched that everyone would be so protective, especially to an interloper with a piston engine. :-)

I just tried to take a picture of the damage, but the sun is bright right now and I can't really get a good pic or see what I'm doing with my iPhone camera. The mark is about a foot long, over the rear passenger side quarter panel. BTW - I saw a question on the forum as to which M3 it was - my car is a silver/gray '06 M3.

I am extremely grateful for everyone's thoughts and concern to make things right. I do not want any reimbursement to fix this, and I am a bit embarrassed about all the attention. I do agree that this is something to address, not for this specific incident, but for the overall sense of respect for attendees, guests, and anyone else we come in contact with in future events. Having said that, after reading Philip's email and what's been posted here I feel very good about how members represent the club and events, both now and in the future.

BTW - I really enjoyed my first time visit to DGRRX! Everyone was great...I loved the location...the events...running the Dragon's Tail...Fontana Dam. I was a little intimidated by all the knowledge and skill everyone has about cars, engines and performance driving. I'm not really much of a car guy...I just like to drive fast, and am not really concerned how that happens under the hood. That's probably why the M3 is a good choice for me - I get to be sporty at times, yet it's hard for an idiot like me to break it, and with the optional seat warmer and 'cruise' settings it is acceptable to my wife. :-) Anyway, I really had a good time at DGRRX, and hope to come back for future events.

Thank you!

Um...let's see...Rotaries rule, Pistons drool! How's that? :-)
