here is the turbo im gonna use for the bnr rebuild. I think its S5 but im not totally sure. haha.. now lets see how long it takes me to save the money for it :001_005:

MaczPayne 08-08-2009 01:02 PM

^Definitely an S5.

project86 08-08-2009 08:09 PM

ok cool good to know. i have been chattin with bryan at bnr. he says the s4 can actually make 10-20 more whp but ill be satisfied with this im sure

so quick update. i think i have decided to just go S5 13BT. I have been givin it some thought, and i dont want my build to take me until im fifty. Not tryin to sound impatient just tryin to maybe be more realistic for my current financial situation, because the 13BT would also be quite a bit cheaper that the RE conversion and i will be just as happy. It will also allow me to have resources more available to me. So im going to start getting housings and irons. Im going to do the actually assembly myself and have someone else do the porting. After helping Murray with his assembly today i feel more than capable that i can do it. Im either going to just save for a while and buy new housings and irons or hope i can find some in good shape. Ill be satisfied either way.
I plan on pulling my engine next time im in at my parents house if i have time. i may wait a few months to do anything with it until i move into a new place. ill try to keep this updated to keep everyone following from gettin to bored :)

ok so i think i may have found some s5 irons a friend of mine has here. should be able to pick them up for about 150 bucks, then ill clean them and lap them and have them ported. im curious if i can use a s4 front iron though instead because i think i would rather use the mech. omp instead of the 1500 dollar electrical one. i am for sure gonna buy new housings and im debating if i want to use the s4 turbo rotors or if i also want to buy the s6 rotors my friend has too. i know i wont be able to run as much boost on pump gas without messing with timing( advice from murray if i understood correctly) but they are local which makes things alot easier on me as far as money and availability obviously. he wants 250 for the rotors? and suggestions are welcome.

TitaniumTT 08-18-2009 12:21 AM

The front iron has nothing to do with the choice of OMP, that's the duty of the front cover and they are interchangeable as long as you adhere keep the same waterpump assembly as well...

Whichever irons you use, that is the intake mani that you need to use as well so keep that in mind too.

As far as the choice in rotors, if you're going standalone, it really doesn't matter, I would use the S6 rotors as they are the strongest and will give you better low end grunt as well as cruising effeicency.

project86 08-18-2009 01:22 AM

ok. so the water pump is interchangeable too then? awesome. then i shall use the s6 rotors... ill need to measure them first of course as far as the gaps for the apex seals etc. dont want to sound like a noob but do the irons and rotors have any aluminum in them at all. just askin because of an idea i have for cleaning.

TitaniumTT 08-18-2009 07:37 AM

The waterpumps are not entirely interchangeable. I know an S6 will fit a 13B-RE, and I BELIEVE that the S4 waterpump assembly will fit an S5 front cover, but the S5 waterpump assembly will NOT fit on an S4 front cover. I believe that's what we did on my buddies car before he decided to pussy out and go to the dark side.

The waterpumps themselves are not interchangeable and must be kept with thier respective assemblies.

There is no aluminum in the irons, I don't believe in the rotors. I would be careful about cleaning the rotors though due to the babbit material on the bearings.

TitaniumTT 08-18-2009 07:40 AM

Since you've already got the S4 N/A, just use that front cover and waterpump assembly and eliminate all potential guess work. The only thing that you'll need to do is plumb in a coolant return line for the turbo. As simple as drilling and tapping for a pipe fitting or do what I did, weld on a, AN bung :icon_tup:

fantastic. so s4 front cover and water pump assembly with s5 everything else. ill post some pics of how i want the exterior too look for the most part

Yes the higher comp rotors are gonna give you much better low end response and OBVISOUSLY can handle boost up to 18psi on 91 octane...my old motor proved that. :) I just like to play it safe now and for good reason.

Let me know Kyle if you want help doing a price break down. I also Have a lot of misc parts around my gargage that are in great shape: Oil control rings, corner seal eyelets, oil pumps, CAS's, Rear gears, front gears, oil pans, injector diffusers, ect ect.

I even have a S4 TII front cover for ya!

HOWEVER i have some good news. im going to pick up my car this weekend so i can bring it back here and pull the engine and tranny so i can get it prepped for paint. if all goes according to plan ill have it in the shop right after school starts. guess what that means?! PICTURES AND LOTS OF THEM! im hoping to get the honda paid for with my financial aid refund checks so then i can gather the money to pay for the body work ( which im going to get done for very cheap since im doing it myself) ill keep ya posted!

ok guys.. today is the day. im going to get my car at 3 (its 12:30 now). Im not sure if ill get anything pulled today but when i finally do ill get some pics up. its dirty as hell under there. its probably gonna be a huge pain in my ass when i go to clean during paint prep.

Sean, do i NEED an s5 harness or can i use my s4 one. i know im gonna have to use s5 uim and lim because the irons matt has are s5. but i should still be able to use my coils and some other stuff right? im obviously not ready to purchase this stuff since im gonna do paint first but i wanna get all my ducks in a row. :)
