see what drives me nuts about turbos is i once read about a turbo being developed similar to what your looking into except they designed it more like the way a fighter jet vectors its thrusters, but ever since then i cant find any information about it, it literally had moving plates that channeled the exhaust gases in the dp
i wish i new what happened to it, it seemed like a very promising idea |

You just want me to do it so that you can get a 14 hr ride in it ;) I'm not sure if I'll have the time. I might call this guy and see if I can commission him to build one for me. Once I get all the important shit squared away, I'll start focusing on it, that's for damn sure. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._2751536_n.jpg |
I vote for detailed pictures of #17, for um, "technical" reasons

lmao!! oh my god did bdc make that?!?! |
are you tearing down the motor again?
|
I've got to pull it to do some touch up paint work in the engine bay. And I've got to pull the turbo's to port the wastegate. When I do that I'll take the mani off and see what kind of shape the sleeve is in. If the sleeve is solid, I won't. If the sleeve seems loose or if it shifted at all, or if there are signs of an exhaust leak, they yes, motor comes apart again. I've got one good REW housing, so if the sleeve is in bad shape I'll either need to find a comparable REW housing, a comparable RE housing, or take 2 of my n/a housings to Goopy for that resurfacing treatment.
As of right now though, the only things that I need to do to the engine are re-work the harness slightly to add a fuel temp sensor, and change out the intake mani gaskets. Mazdatrix didn't have them in stock so I had to re-use the old ones.... it bothers me. |

why are you worried about fuel temp?
|
Curious more than anything. Plus there is a seperate comp table that I can use to compensate for high fuel temps. Thought being hot fuel expands, less actual molecules, potential to run lean etc etc. Not a big deal unless you're on the ragged edge of the tune, which I'm not, but still I'm curious to see where it goes.
Oh yeah, forgot to add, when I pull the exhaust mani, I've got to add in an EGT probe. |

Soooooooo... We finally got that CUCV up and running and I was finally able to start on the FC. First thing.... put the list up on the wall :smilielol5:
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193051 If anybody uses an Optima battery, they know that they like to die, and die fast when left to thier own demise. I've got a batter cut off switch so that when the switch is turned off, the only circuits with power are the alarm, horn, PW, PDL, and the radio memory. If she sits for a few weeks, the battery is stone dead. Sooooooo, after getting one replaced on warranty I picked up this little gem and mounted it on the wall. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193051 Now, how to connect it to the car? Well, the little kit comes with an adapter that has a pair of aligator clips on them. Ok, maybe.... but that means I need to put the passenger seat forward, pull the lid off the storage bin lid, lean in, clamp them on, hope they don't fall off etc etc etc. Royal PITA. luckily, they have a little adapter that you can hardwire to the battery. Cool shit, it even has a little fuse there. 15A, interesting but I'm not going to argue or try to reinvent it. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193051 I've got my battery mounted in the passenger side bin, and mounted rather snugly. I've got a powerpost in plain view for the various grounds, to bat, to chassis, to jumper, to amp, to fuel pump, and now to charger... cool. Coming off the battery I've got a 2ga cable that runs right to that main breaker. From there it goes to the remote bat switch and splits from there to go to a bunch of different places. So, seeing as how this is already fused, the best place to wire it up is going to be on the line side of the main breaker. One of my BIGGEST complaints about other peoples wiring is when they stack shit on battery terminals. I fucking hate it. I've seen boats sink becuase of it, fires almost start etc etc etc.... One of my rules is one cable per terminal. So it's going on the breaker http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193051 And here is the connector mounted on a little bracket that I threw together. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193051 |

I mounted it near the battery on the fiberglass uprights. If that fuse blows, it's going to be a royal PITA to change it. I'd much rather be able to easiy get to it rather than take the battery out, maybe even the fiberglass.... so were going to mount up a 15A marine breaker that I happened to have kicking around. I would've rather used a push-button breaker but I didn't have one, and the chandlery store was closed, waytek, terminal supply, delcity etc etc would've been a few days out so I said fuck it and used the breaker. If the carpet trips it I'll either get a shield for it or swap it out. I don't see it being a problem when the connector is plugged it.
http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193469 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193469 and there it is plugged in.... weeeeeee I finally got something done :ugh2: http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193469 |

Just for fun.... we were supposed to get 5-8" of snow. Finally tally that I measured was 17".... way to go guys. Regardless.... 3 hours of shoveling so I could get the FC out to make it to the dyno on Saturday... hint hint hint.....
That little mound over there is the 'vert under a car cover. It'll be MONTHS before that pile melts to get that car out... damn.. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193943 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193943 Last night I figured I'd do a little on the FC, then move some cars around and get my truck off the street. By the time I was in a position to get the FC out, there was already 6+" on the ground. I wasn't about to shovel that shit out, couldn't if I wanted to, was coming down to fast, so she sat on the street overnight, and of course I got plowed in. I LOVE this truck, all I did was toss her in 4-hi, rocked back once, and drove out. Then I went down to the beach to play around in some un-plowed parking lots. I tried to get the thing stuck and I couldn't.... I love my XJ. http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193943 http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...1&d=1296193943 |
Dude, this may sound weird coming from someone that lives in Colorado, but I'm SO glad I don't live where you live LOL!!!
