Maybe going through this whole thread in one night was crazy... Mmm definitely not. Your car is amazing TTT, the work and dedication are something so few owners have with FC's, glad to see there's people out there still willing to take them all the way. Great build up brotha, I'll definitely be stickin' around this thread to see what else is happening! Love the fab!

There will be multiple crosses on that before the build is done.

Thanks man, I appreciate it! There will be a ton of shit in the coming weeks for sho!

So I figured I'd bump this thread with what I've done to the car in the past three weeks

First was some playtime on the dyno,
Then I repainted the hood after an unfortuneate incident with an engine hoist and some rocks at high rates of speed.

Then

I

Washed

It.

And that's about it.... the RX7's vehicular nemisis is taking up too much time, I'll get some pics up of that motherfucker tomorrow. The big push is to get this done in the next 3 weeks so I can rock on the FC before we start getting really busy at work around April...... tight tight as always

Brian what ever happened to the great coil dyno off?

TitaniumTT 02-21-2011 11:42 AM

It's taking place in smaller stages. So far we've pitted the Bosch coils against a $1500 M&W ignition system and then against the Quicksilver coils.

The M&W setup gained about 3hp over the Boschs across the board, but the idle sucked balls. Regardless of what we did, including mult-stike, I couldn't get a decent idle. THe Bosch's idled the car perfectly with a 0 (Zero as in nothing) dwell time and didn't start misfiring until about 3k.

The quicksilver coils impressed the hell out of me. We we're tuning my car when we started running out of time so she was running WAY rich, which is a good comparision in one way. The Bosch's were getting a little breakup up high and still putting down 380 rwhp. Bolted the quicksilvers on and the breakup went away, and she picked up 4hp up high where we were getting the breakup. BUT, there was no difference in the low to mid ranges where there was no breakup. They are a STOUT coil. I was running those with a 3.5ms Dwell time as Chris Ludwig told me to do, he loves these coils and rightfully so, the Bosch coils where set to 2.4ms. So I'd be curious as to if increasing the dwell time would get rid of the break-up.... didn't think of that until after the fact though.... oh well. I still love my Boschs becuase they are so damn small and need such little dwell time. I would love to get the car dialed in and go back and test the Bosch vs the Quicksilver again because I think they are that close. The Quicksilvers I think would be an upgrade to the Boschs if you're running water or meth or you're like bdc and think that running .7L is safe

Now, we also had two RX8's there. One running LS2 coils, the other running the Quicksilver coils. LS2 coils put down 187, Quicksilver car put down 194. Different cars so not really a good test, but I will say I contacted BHR about 'renting' a set of LS2 coils for this test. I told them I would give them all the data I have so they can publish it on their website so they can show an increase in RWHP with the RX8 coils vs the LS2 coils. They told me flat out that they already dyno'ed them back to back and they intentionally did not post the results. That to me tells me that the difference in RWHP between the RX8 coils and the LS2 coils is little to none, so I tend to think that the LS2 coils don't make THAT much of an improvement. Glenn is going to send me a set of LS2 coils when I get my shit together and head back to the dyno. We got another 6" of snow last night so it won't be for a while

Oh come on, don't let that stop you. All you need is some kind of tow vehicle and a competition to motivate you LOL.

Brian my coils are available for as much testing as you want to do until the day I bolt them into my car after that they will be harder to part with. I had to talk myself out of installing them in my FD this week.

BTW... Bill and I are getting our asses kicked in the ROTM for Feb. Thanks :)

Cool! Thanks MC. I don't think the testing will be done until after Deals though... not sure when you're planning on putting them on but I'm sure we'll figure something out.

How to properly park a Jeep

Yeah, we got more snow yesterday, and everything that started to melt froze, so it's pretty solid. Didn't even leave any tread marks that time. Later in the day I parked nose first. Got so high up I lifted the left rear and the truck rocked a little.... I think my asshole is still puckered :smilielol5:

The rotaries nemesis!!! AHHHHAHAHAAAHAAHAAAA Got maybe 3 more weeks on this mother until I can really start cranking on the ole' 7. The paint failed on the firewall. PO who "restored" the righ hired a proffessional painter who skipped the whole Galanizing prep and self etching primer. The paint was literally falling off.... and in big chunks too... 6"x6" and sometimes larger. When we prepped it, we never once needed a piece of sandpaper. All we did was scrape it all off

That and I'll be completely redoing the totally abysmal factory wiring. It'll be full Raychem and mil spec by the time I'm done. I dare say it'll be the nicest wired Landi EVER!!!!! HAAHAAHAHAA!!!! EVER!!!!!

I have to ask, now that you brought it up, what do you use as self etching primer?

WE3RX7 02-22-2011 07:38 PM

You werent kidding... that landi is one crazy mother!

Still though.. should have just bought a jeep, lol...

TitaniumTT 02-22-2011 07:39 PM

I use PPG products.... but as you can see the rig is in my "booth" so I took the bulkhead down to an old friend of the family.... not sure what they use. Brought it there yesterday morning, was there this morning and it wasn't done, they called a little while ago.... DONE! and baked off too so tomorrow night the POS is going on.

Yeah, no doubt.... but he had to have the diesel, and he had to have something that would somewhat match what he's got in Africa.....

AC is for pussies..... The only time I use AC is when my dogs are in the truck

I wish it was warm out... my garage is up to 60* and it's still cold out there.

Ok, i have read your entire thread, and thats some damn good work. Much props to you.

I do have a few questions, since I am looking at some tooling purchases.
1)What grade steel do you use for your body work and what thicknesses?
2)what type of welder do you use, I'm assuming TIG.
3)what gas do you use for your welding?
4)do you just cold bend all your pieces, or do you have a sheet metal bender?
