Phil @ first I was like "what" WTF where's the driver. Quickly i figured out that "oops it's a JDM thingy":)

N.RotaryTech 05-01-2009 02:35 PM

Someone photoshop that picture and add Ghost Rider flames and another ride along.

FDSeoul 05-01-2009 02:50 PM

I have to say i'm not a fan of the Cosmo(body style) but seeing Phil's car over the span of the weekend and seeing how well she stands, not to mention the power to back it's size up. I can see why the Japanese love cruising in this thing:)

To be honest with you, I still think FD is the best car Mazda has ever produced.. I like the fact that cosmo is unique (right hand drive and 3 rotor), but if it was LHD and has a piston, i don't think I would of ever bought it.. Also, the styling is so so and definitely 90s style (similar to SC300s and Legend coupe).

FDSeoul 05-01-2009 04:11 PM

ACURA LegenD, wow Phil, I'm beginning to think you're old for recalling that model.:)

djmtsu 05-01-2009 04:29 PM

Lol, I remember the first time I met Phil. He was rocking the Legend Coupe!

PS- Steven STILL has that thing, and drives it everyday!

LOL! Good ole days.. COOL!

I had the Legend Coupe from 97 to 2006.. I loved that car! I actually looked at Lexus SC400 back when I was in Cincy (2000) and thought about replacing the Legend. Only thing was that it got worse MPG and the rear window didn't roll down... Also, I thought the Legend looked better than the SC... Only reason I got rid of the Legend was because the AC didn't work and my remote to remote start, stopped working.. Oh, I missed the remote start.. during the winter, it was awesome getting into a warm car :)

FDSeoul 05-02-2009 12:43 AM

LOL GREAT STORY Phil, I also would of opted for the Legend. Those were the shit back then...... but now a days I'll take that SC chassis with a 2jz boosted any day.

Well Phil, if you really don't like your Cosmo that much, I GUESS I could take it off your hands. LOL Seriously though, I think that car is pimp. I'd love to have one of those. I like it for the same reasons you do though. If it was piston and LHD I wouldn't be so crazy about it either. I think the styling is alright though. I don't love it as much as my FD, but it's still not bad.

Awesome pics Michael.

Hey guys, finally got something thrown together. Not the greatest work, but still worth a look I think. Starts out with footage of a Skyline chasing me up the mountain, and ends with me following orion84gsl. Great roads!

My pleasure:) You East guys had me surprised with all the hi class build and reping all generations of rotary @ this event.. I have shared my impression of the event with my southern cali guys and it still seem impossible to have an event like DGRR here in Cali.:seeya:

speedjunkie 05-07-2009 05:18 AM

^Considering that you guys have SevenStock, I wouldn't think it would be impossible. Of course you'd have to find a legendary curvy road, but I doubt that would be hard either haha.

I vow to drive to SevenStock one of these years too.

It's called LIABILITY and we all know that there are WAAYY too many attorneys in Sourthern Cal who would love to jump on event organizers if anything ever went wrong.

I think the only way it would happen at Sevenstock is if it were organized by individuals independent of the SoCal club or any other Sevenstock organizers. Even then, you're opening yourselves up for a ton of bad press (not to mention the liability) if anything were to happen and the news choppers started flying over the scene to broadcast how those damn "street racers" were at it again. Just not worth the risk in most people's opinions. I think what Phil and his group have going at DGRR is awesome. I just hope that some unfortunate event beyond their control doesn't happen and shut the event down. It all comes down to individual owners having fun, but driving responsibly as well and not over their heads. That IS one good thing about having cars in a caravan. It keeps people from getting TOO crazy. Anyway, sorry for this little diversion. Back to pics!!

speedjunkie 05-07-2009 02:02 PM

^That's a good point. I forgot Cali laws and officers usually suck balls. Dragon has taken quite a few lives already, so it's not like bad things haven't happened. It's just that the cops realize the rotary folks are generally a good group and don't cause alot of trouble, and therefore don't get their panties in a wad. You guys are right, it will probably never happen for Cali, and that sucks. At least you have SevenStock though.

FDSeoul 05-07-2009 03:03 PM

Sure we have SS in cali but, it's a completely different flavor event. SS is more like show and tell more than anything else. Don't mistake there is no other event like SS, attendees are in the thousands.

DGRR event in cali would be impossible in the sense that having any amount cars gathered would create such stupid attention from the local LAW. It would not be enjoyable.

Drama 05-07-2009 08:57 PM

We all agree we have had a great time this year. Thats all that really counts.
Kudo`s to Phi, And his wife, Can`t forget the the helpers either.

Oh I definitely hear ya. I was thinking about how bad I wanna go to SS, but I've also thought "so all they do is sit around and look at each others cars? No driving is involved?" So I hear you.

Hmmm, may I suggest everyone on the west side trek to the beautiful mountain roads of Colorado? Haha. I'm sure I can find a road that is close to as good as the Dragon. We've already hit several of them. However, I'm not sure how the law enforcement would respond yet. Maybe we could just try it for ourselves and see how it goes. We have had cruises through the mountains with a REALLY long caravan and no one stopped us, but it wasn't just rotaries. :(

Oh this kills me!!! Don't get me wrong we have our fair share of beautiful roads out here in Southern Cali and plenty of track events back to back weekends. Once in a while we plan cruises for the rotary community but, nothing like DGRR. For some reason it seems more Free/natural/better.
