duval7,
I really cant agree with your opinion. I don't feel that the FD is in some "different league", or that the RX8 is some kinda lame duck because Mazda didn't try to conquer the world with it.

All I can agree with is that it's a pretty car. Outside of that, it's another RX7. Faster from the factory, but honestly, how many of us actually leave our cars stock... power and appearance are all about money, not the stock trim.

In Vinnie's case, I don't think an RX8 + 13b-RE FC is a fair trade. To me, an FD isn't worth close to $20,000 unless it has a 20b swap. I wouldn't sell my RX8 for any less that $12,000 for the work, styling, it's still under warranty, and all dealer serviced. If they wanted my bridge port, it would be even more. Vinnie's FC could easily fetch $6,000 ~ $8,000. It's clean and well done. I'm not sure what all he's got in his RX8, but running, I still wouldn't sell it for less than $9,000.

Hard to trade away the practicality of the 8 + a nice / well built 2 seater for another 2 seater with similar potential to the sports car you already have. Hard to value it even more in that aspect for me.

I was going to say the same thing, but I am 98% positive he wasn't in Brentwood. I don't think he even took his car out yesterday. I could be wrong though.

HAHA WOW!! I stirred the pot on that one. As much as I would love to have an FD I don't know that much about them as much as I am familiar with FC's plus I have too much money in the cosmo swap FC I couldn't justify the loss. The RX8 I can get rid of when ready...I'm not attached to it like the track FC or Cosmo. I'll get the whip crackin on the 8 I just need to take one project at a time, Brian can vouch...I have too much rotary work.

You got a build thread for any of the FCs you got?

Not me, and I haven't seen another FD since 2009.

I know I dont know you guys to well so i hope i dont offend anyone, but here is my advice. As far as rotarys go the FD is Michael Jordan, the FC is Steve Kerr and the RX8 is a little retarded kid that wears a helmet and blows snot bubbles. I would trade an FC and an RX8 in for a FD in a heart beat. An FD is one of those cars that pictures don't do it justice. They are just absolutely gorgeous and catch everyones eye as they pass by. I use to keep a collection of phone numbers in my ash tray that girls would leave on my windshield without ever seeing me. FCs are a good car, i had two in high school and college but they aren't in the same league as the 3rd gens and as far as an RX8, if you have an RX8 go to the first person you see and beg them to punch you in the throat. Just joking around RX8 owners and Chad. Oh if you do go the FD route make sure you have another car as a DD. Anyway thats my 2 cents, I am looking forward to meeting you guys at one of the get togethers.

^Agreed. The main way FDs are in a league above so many cars is because of how rarely they are seen. I see RX-8s and little rusty red FCs all the time, and they are just a little to common. But I almost nut my pants everytime I walk into my garage.

^I have to agree with you and reagree with myself.:icon_tup: The black FD I saw on Moores Lane was the first one i had seen in 4 years of living in Nashville/Brentwood. Back when mine was actually running most people that saw it had know clue what it was and for the most part had never seen one. So was that your car i saw the other day? I forgot how good a stock one looks. I might just sell my Advans and go back to stock+1.

FD = early fail, I've only met three FD owners I liked. On the evil forum someone is parting out their FD because it only runs 14s.

djmtsu 06-07-2010 06:47 AM

The reason you never see FD's on the road is they are always broken down :D

I almost bought an FD when I found my RX-8. I think I made the right decision.

No it wasn't me in Brentwood. Although, I am getting a quote for some better tires to put on my stock rims. So I may be running them before the summer is out.
Oh and yeah, FDs do break, but I push my car all the time and there aren't alot of other cars that have the balance of being rare, timeless style, speed, performance, and price. If I lost mine I would give 2 RX-8's and a 20B FC for another one.

Haven't you tried selling your car a long time now? Not disagreeing completely, in my opinion the 3rd gen is a great looking car. Everyone has their own personal preferences. Just like the 3rd gen, the 1st & 2nd gens have a timeless style as well, but everyone has their own opinion. All cars have the potential to break, while some seem to have more inherent problems than others, these problems have been resolved through the support from others over the forums and other fellow enthusiast. Most of the Mid-Tenn group has seen how I drive my 7 and it has held up well. Preventative maintenance is key to the reliability of all our cars. Lastly, the mentioning of speed/performance and price, well speed cost money and how fast do you wanna go?? Any rotary can be a money pit. These are just my unbiased opinions.

I'm just joking guys. I love all rotaries even the rust and pinkish ones. I tried to sell my car seriously for one day. When I broke down and was willing to sell it my wife got mad and didn't want to sell it. And yes, all cars will have their issues I love how most of the people that talk crap about the reliability of our cars have just as many issues with their cars. As far a speed goes the FD is just an incredible platform to build from.:driving:

LunchboxCritter 06-08-2010 03:37 PM

The FD's are sexy machines, but I couldn't imagine trading an FC with a 20b for one. That's just silly talk. Watch out with those sort of feelings, they might lead to your junk getting stuck in the exhaust of your FD. :) (picturing a guy hung up with his car, like a pair of dogs) lmao

As far as the Rx8's, we have one and it's a great family car. It drives, handles great, and the old lady killed a 2010 mustang on the way home from work yesterday. :)

I do not know of any other 4 seater, 4 door stock car on the market that can out perform an RX8 (at least not in the same price range).

So when/where is everyone meeting up next? We may have to roll the FC and/or the RX8 down there and hang out.
