Ok, so if I break the seconds down into rough fractions (30 sec = .5, 45 sec = .75) then I math (minute.fraction/5)*60 I com up with the following:

42.5/60= .7083 (rounded to .71). So the time for 43psi would be 5.71. Therefore:
(5.71/5=1.142)x60= 68.52GPH

31.5/60= .525 (rounded to .53). So the time for 70psi would be 6.53.
Therefore:
(6.53/5=1.306)x60= 78.36GPH

But.... I know that can't be right because if it were flowing a higher GPH @ higher psi than it would take less time. :suspect: Can't math =(

Fendamonky 03-30-2013 11:06 PM

So I spent about an hour manually searching through the Lounge here to find a thread Brian made forever and a day ago about GPH calculations. Why did it take me an hour to find a specific thread made by Brian???? BECAUSE THE FCUKING SEARCH FUNCTION FAILS!!! lol

Anyway, posting this link up because pertinent.

So, from the thread above I found this:

18.95 Liters pumped in 233 seconds

.081 Liters per second

.081 LPS times 60 seconds is 4.88 Liters Per min

4.88 LPM times 60 minutes is 292.79 Liters per hour.

292.79 LPH.

My guess a bosch O44.

As per Bryans post I found that:
5:42.5 ----- 342 seconds (43psi fuel pressure)
.055 LPS = 3.32 LPM = 199.47 LPH :: 52.77 GPH

6:31.5 ----- 391 seconds (70 fuel pressure)
.048 LS = 2.91 LPM = 174.47 LPH :: 46.15 GPH

I'm thinking I've either got a voltage problem, some sort of a restriction in the fuel lines themselves, my fuel filters are clogged (the in-tank sock is stupid old, and may actually have it too low in the tank), or the pump itself sucks...

Lets just say that I'm less than happy... Gunna start with getting a replacement fuel filter (it's possible that bits of my old 044 are clogging it) and double checking where my pump is physically located in the tank. Unfortunately I can't monitor the voltage at the pump while testing this at home =(

JL1RX7 03-31-2013 07:51 AM

You need a good meter?

Fendamonky 03-31-2013 09:23 AM

Yes, and a good man to work it :o16: :suspect: :naughty:

Do you think you'd be free to come help re-run the tests?

JL1RX7 04-01-2013 03:34 PM

You just know what to say! But let me know what afternoon you want me to come over.:auto:

mazpower 04-01-2013 04:14 PM

Good thing you tested it!

Rotary Evolution 04-01-2013 04:17 PM

if you check the sock also check the filter inside the pump. it is a small screen filter and if it gets even a small amount of junk inside the inlet the volume will take a dump quite quickly.

E85 stripping the tank sediment plugs the pump filters rather quickly. it's almost best to not even have it in there.

Nice to know! I've just ordered a replacement sock, once that gets in I'll swap the sock and have a peek to see if there is anything on the screen inside the pump as well.

As far as I'm aware the pump was only used for 100-200 miles previously as an inline pump mounted after a swirl pot. I don't know for sure if the previous owner ran E85 or not, I know that I have no intention of putting it in my car though.

I've got 1 week before my buddy arrives from England, 2 weeks before my wedding, and 3 weeks before DGRR...

My new "to-do" list is to replace the filter element in my fuelab filter, replace the sock on the 044, re-test. If that results in the appropriate amount of flow than I'll be super happy. If not... I'll get Jacks sweet, sweet, man-cheeks over here and test again while monitoring voltage.

Once my fuel flow is correct (ideally that won't require buying another pump) I'll get her on the dyno and get some numbers posted! (everybody loves dyno sheets! lol)

So far I've ordered the new filter element, and I'll be ordering the new sock as soon as I finish posting here!

DriFD3S 04-01-2013 11:44 PM

Congratulations on getting married, and I hope that you can get your car done for DGRR.

Knock. Knock.

Whose there?

Guess who.

Ok.

Hint....not oil.

Oh must be walked e shaft.

Correct! And his friend toasted bearings!

:fawk: Not exactly a normal scenario as per why that shit happened. Fucking sucks to be honest. Though I am SUPER glad you guys came by after me.

Poking fun like that isn't exactly cool, or appreciated, though.

banzaitoyota 04-22-2013 08:56 PM

Suxors.........

Fendamonky 04-28-2013 08:25 PM

You're telling me... This time I'll rebuild it solo, hopefully I remember enough from the last build to get it all right.

If I'm lucky than most of the engine will be salvageable. It will be a crying shame if I need to buy new rotors and irons :(

speedjunkie 04-28-2013 08:43 PM

Wait, did you blow the engine on the way home from DGRR?

btw it was good to meet you Levi. And your buddy.

And the rest of you guys too lol.

Fendamonky 04-28-2013 10:42 PM

Yeah, I did :( The fitting that connects my oil thermostat to the engine worked loose and I dumped a full load of oil on the highway.

At best my bearings are toast and my e-shaft is toast. If I'm lucky than everything else is salvageable. If not... well I'd rather not dwell on that possibility until I've got the engine out and I'm tearing it down.

It was good to meet you too! I'm glad that Brian and the rest showed up at the gas station so you were able to get up with him :)

TheAsset 05-05-2013 04:42 PM

This is the first thread I read, and it's bad news man. I hope for a speedy recovery!

speedjunkie 05-06-2013 01:09 AM

Oh shit man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that :(

afgmoto1978 05-06-2013 07:02 AM

Damn that sucks!

Almost had a similar experience at DGRR, luckly I caught it time and temporarily fixed it.

Good luck getting it rebuilt.

Yeah, it REALLY sucks! Especially since the engine was running really strong. I've identified the cause (lack of a mount for my oil thermostat caused the threads to walk loose, dumping all my oil on the highway) and will certainly be correcting that when she gets back on the road. Unfortunately that probably won't be until the fall or winter :(

Yeah, you're telling me! I wish I would have caught the dropped oil pressure before it was too late.

Thanks! I'm actually going to try to tackle the rebuild myself. Hopefully my rotors, plates, and housings are all fine.

i can vouche for this. Out of boost she was still angry :cheers2:

I look forward to seeing the Phoenix rising from the ashes! Keep me in the loop, Levz!

Fendamonky 05-06-2013 03:34 PM

You know I absolutely will Chris!

m4drx 06-06-2013 08:07 PM

update :ugh2:

Fendamonky 06-06-2013 10:36 PM

Hey hey! What's up Tharek :)

There isn't likely to be an update until after I transfer and/or Bianca and I make it to Brazil and back. I don't want to pull the engine out and strip it down if I *might* get word a couple weeks later that we're gunna need to pack everything up and move. Once I know when/where I'm going (and have gotten there) I'll pull the engine out, start to strip it down and then assess the damage. After we get Bianca home to visit her family I'll start getting stuff together for the rebuild.

Right now we're just saving monies for the flight and holiday.

Monkman33 07-06-2013 01:29 PM

Get this beast back on the road!!

Fendamonky 07-08-2013 02:42 PM

Unfortunately she won't be back on the road until at least the spring most likely.. My current plan is to keep the engine as close to how it was built last (I'll reuse as much as possible).

I'll replace the PFC with a Syvecs S8 (at least that's my plan), and I'll replace the stock coils/TwinPower with the AEM IGN-1A coils.

If I can get all that done by DGRR than I'll count it as a success since, financially, my wife and I are just barely scraping by right now... she just started a new job though, so that should help a lot.

Thankfully I still have my litre bike to give the speed fix, and I've got the Miata for some 4-wheeled fun :)

GySgtFrank 07-08-2013 02:52 PM

Dang it. I still need my ride along. :banghead:

RedR1 07-08-2013 03:01 PM

Im hoping to have my FD running by next DGRR as well. crossing my fingers, we'll see!

JL1RX7 07-08-2013 03:03 PM

Just let me know when you need help Levi. It might be safe for me come over by now :)

Fendamonky 11-08-2013 01:48 PM

So... No new work has occurred on my car yet... However my wife and I just got home from vacation outside of the country and I've got the (bosses) "go ahead" to start fixing up the FD :awesome:

My game plan right now is to:

1 - Pull and rebuild the engine. The extent of the damage will be known once it's apart. I'm planning right now on needing to replace the soft seals, the e-shaft, and all internal bearings that could/would be damaged by an oilless environment. Obviously the rotors/housing/irons will be cleaned and checked for damage. Also I'll be checking on the clearances of the apex, side and corner seals. My last engine had it's unfortunate accident in the 3,000-4,000 mile range, so ideally the clearances that were set then should still be pretty damned close to spot on.

2 - Replace the PFC I've been running for years with a Life Racing F88RS. I picked the new ECU up from Glenn (Mazpower), who is now one of the US's newest Life Racing dealers ;)

3 - Build new wiring harness for the ECU.

4 - Replace my stock coils/HKS Twin Power with 4x IGN-1A coils.

5 - Replace the stock trigger with an FFE Trigger Wheel.

6 - Brew plenty of beer to keep people relaxed and low-stress while this Build v2.0 happens

First things first though... I gotta clean the SHIT out of my garage (as anybody who's been to my place can attest to, lol) and make some sort of work table/bench in there that I can use to work on. Hopefully I'll be adding more updates, with progress and pictures, in the near future ^_^

GySgtFrank 11-08-2013 04:31 PM

Glad to hear you're back at it Levi. :cheers2:

I got some building up, think I'll add a little beard hair to the engine as well... Because: Reasons.

But if you wanna send me some anyway... :naughty: :o16: :cuddle:

Fendamonky 01-05-2014 05:12 PM

So... I made a little bit of progress today. With the help of my wife we got the garage pretty much field day'd (clean). I picked up a 3-piece tool chest on Black Friday and I've migrated most of my tools over to that. I'll be getting a decent set of shelves from Home Depot this week, and I'll also draw up plans for my work table (I'm thinking 3'6" tall, 6' long, and 3' deep) then I'll go pick up the wood for it on the weekend.

Car wise, I drained the oil and coolant this afternoon and also removed the oil coolers to drain (SOOO much glitter!!! :() as well. After that I pulled the intake off and removed the UIM/TB. I pulled out (and sold) the HKS Twin Power earlier in the week and I just pulled out the stock ignition this evening (it's up for grabs if anybody wants it).

I'll keep stripping things out of the engine bay in prep for pulling the motor. Hopefully I'll have the motor out and broke down within the next couple weeks!!

88turboii 01-05-2014 08:41 PM

hopefully its not a bitch to pull apart due to bearings failing, i wish you luck. a friends engine also died due to oil starvation, im not looking forward to attempting to pull that one apart

TitaniumTT 01-05-2014 09:30 PM

I popped an engine on the dyno due to oil starvation... the engine seized @ 7k rpm and the dyno sheet actually went backwards :smilielol5: Which actually makes total sense.... either way.... the amount of oxy/acy heat and pullers that were needed to get this thing apart was ridiculous.... needless to say, the only thing salvageable on the engine were the mani's

Fendamonky 01-05-2014 09:51 PM

Ouch... I hadn't really considered that it might be a chore to physically dismantle the engine. I'm hoping mine won't be *too* fucked since it traveled maybe a minute without oil, then less than a mile (keeping below 3krpms) after more oil was added..

Odd as hell though, I kept smelling vinegar while cleaning up the garage today. I'm hoping that was just coming from an old beer that had been left open WAAAYYY too long, which we discovered while cleaning

Whizbang 01-05-2014 11:13 PM

hope the bearings didn't spin

Rotary Evolution 01-06-2014 11:20 AM

if the engine still ran after adding more oil and didn't smoke like a train then you probably got extremely lucky.
