This is awesome news but at the same time frustrating to know it was that simple. . Mostly because I swear I looked at that intake pipe more than once!

Yep. We all did. But thats ok. Im not really sure i would have wanted to drive it all the way there anyway. I forgot how uncomfortable it is right now.

djmtsu 05-02-2017 08:01 AM

Zach's DIN plate was mine, then I sold it to someone in Ohio(?), then Zach bought it from him. It has come back home!!

Lol

project86 05-03-2017 11:57 AM

For now i'll probably mount it to the top of the steering column cover. The gauge comes in today.

careful with that area... the plastic is old and brittle and hard to find replacements (bc they break on removal)

Good point. Turns out it wont be able to go there anyway. I dont have a pod. Ill have to find a new place for it.

Got my new trans mounts and cross member installed today. Wiggled my drive shaft around too. Doesn't seem to have much play in it so I guess that means im ok on that front?

FC Zach 05-03-2017 05:45 PM

Yeah, stay away from the steering column. They're as brittle as a lays potato chip.

project86 05-03-2017 07:00 PM

Just remembered i found a big, ass spider living in my trans tunnel..... gotta burn the car.

project86 05-04-2017 01:30 PM

I've made a discovery...

I have the car on stands right now so I could do the trans crossmember and mounts.

I decided i'd start it up while it was off the ground and see if I could feel the vibrations I was talking about while the car wasn't in motion. Turns out I can. So that rules out the drive shaft for sure.

Any ideas what it could be?

They are new and balanced. And its happening without the car moving. I had a short chat with Myles and he's thinking engine mounts.

almoststockfc 05-04-2017 03:12 PM

Seems like it would have to be. Unless you have the wrong counterweight on. That would be bad.

That would be bad...... lets hope thats not it.

djmtsu 05-04-2017 04:13 PM

Wrong counterweight isn't something you generally would feel. It just silently destroys all your bearings...

I second that! We all knew how I drove my car with my previous motor. . It was all fine till I blew a coolant seal and found this upon disassembly.

I had a S5 front weight in my motor, ran that way for ~5 years

ahh didn't see that part...

after you do mounts really the only place left would be clutch/flywheel area, which isn't the end of the world, just need to get in there

Yeah i hadn't planned on doing the clutch but im sure i will after the mounts. Especially if it doesn't fix the problem. I prefer the heavier pedal feel anywy.

Waiting on motor mounts. Once those come in I'll probably have them installed in about 3 weeks because im not going to have time to do it right away. Hopefully that will fix my problem.

Im really read to get rid of my power steering. Its probably all leaked out any way and makes a terrible noise...

LOL.. are you referring to my previous build thread? I really wanna buy coilovers but I think it makes more sense to take care of the powersteering first.

Yet another thing I think about all the time... Do I pull the engine before I have the car painted? Im not going to do a color change. But I wonder if they can do a decent job of touching the bay up if the engine is still in it.

Ha Ha! Give yourself some credit, you stripped your engine down and only hooked one thing up incorrectly. . one thing that multiple eyes probably laid eyes on and still didn't catch.

Wait, that's not a compliment. On second thought. . LEAVE IT ALONE ;) It may take the entire rotary community to get it back together if you pull the engine!

Johnny_K 05-18-2017 08:54 AM

yea, leave it alone and drive it.

I am leaving it alone besides fixing vibrations and blah blah blah... I have no plans to do anything with the engine until it goes bang.

I just wanna do suspension work and fix the leakies and that kinda stuff.

project86 06-14-2017 09:27 AM

Alrighty... update time.

My vibes issue did actually turn out to be a bad driveshaft. U-joint is coming apart. So I'll probably get one ordered in the near future.

That is all. Thanks for tuning in.

FC Zach 06-14-2017 09:33 AM

Nice. . Go to a shop and see if they can work your shaft. . . to get replaceable joints in there

Giggity Giggity!
