Naw staying with stock twins

There are two ways to go about it 1) The way I did it on my FC, FrankenB (Renni powered), MC's monster FB and a bunch of others..... Rear coolant nipple, highest part on the waterpump housing, and highest part on the rad (preferably on the cold side) all go to an AST mounted on the shock tower, or some other place that makes it the highest in the cooling system. On MC's car I'm pretty sure I mounted in off the strut tower bar. All three feed into the AST, all three should be -4. The bottom is a -10 that feeds into the lower water pump housing inlet where the heater core return is. My FC runs an FD WP housing. FrankenB is Renni powered, MC's FB is Cosmo powered with an FC waterpump housing. 2) The other option is more FD friendly because of mounting locations. Remove the T-Stat housing and build an AST there. The stock Tstat housing likes to trap air, by turning it into a tube, it can't anymore. The waterpump housing doesn't trap air. Feed the rear nipple and a vent from the rad into the AST, nothing gets connected to the Lower rad inlet on the waterpump housing. The AST should have a provision for the upper Rad hose Even though my FC runs an FD WP assembly, I didn't have the room to do that because VMIC. And I think it looks better this way. I've done this on a few FD's and doing it again on Andy Choi's car who's engine is disassembled in my shop right now. Levi's FD as well.... So yeah. Friends don't let friends run AST deletes  |

Thanks for the insight Brian. I am doing this more for peace of mind than anything given my car is higher mileage, sat for a while, and still has stock radiator

Used AST purchased and I am working a deal on a used Fluidyne radiator. Need to order my clutch and PP today or tomorrow.
U shoulda just bought a new ast..
what clutch u going with? |
Whats the biggie with a used aftermarket AST? Probably just a stock Exedy for now.
Ah didn't realized u bought an aftermarket one. for some reason thought u got a used oem 1.
you should be happy with the stock exedy one. Wished I had one in my car. |
Yeah I am not planning to make enough power to need a stiff clutch.
I have an Exedy stage 2 in the Celica which is a puck design that is surprisingly tame, pedal pressure and feel is actually easier than the Exedy stage 1 that was originally installed.
Just throwing that out there in case you're on the fence about getting a heavier duty design but worried about driveability, if you are around mid TN anytime in the near future you're more than welcome to drive the Celica to get a feel for it.
Thanks for the offer Zach and I will keep that in mind. I am planning on running stock twins non-non-sequential so shouldnt be working the clutch too hard haha.
Dunno... I made 405rwhp with stock sequentials :D
And I've always had my exedy twin disc. I love it.... and I particularly like watching everyone stall it |
I dont have no twin disc money
Just saying I don't mind daily driving twin disc
:) I would love one, but cant justify the expense on my ugly FD
Just bought a used Fluidyne radiator
Happy Bday Zach

Well I was hesitant at first to even announce my intentions for fear it would jinx my getting the FD together in time.
