So I got another driveshaft from Charles. I planning to put that in this week. Now I'm seriously shopping for an exhaust. Mine is leaking pretty bad, its loud and it sounds stupid.

I've been considering getting the complete road race system from Racing Beat because i like the quality, sound and that it looks stock but I'm open to other options as well that might save some coin. Any suggestions?

djmtsu 07-25-2017 10:41 AM

RB system is 100% the way to go on an NA rotary. Just listen to Zach's!!!!

I had it and loved it, only changed mine when I went turbo to free up a little more HP. That being said, the RB had a way better sound, and of course I used the RB downpipe and pre-silencer with the Apexi N1 EVO.

GySgtFrank 07-25-2017 11:01 AM

I have to agree, the RB system is hard to beat even if it is a bit more expensive than some. Ya gets what ya paid for.

I think that will be what I do. I also completely agree about getting what you pay for. I was just looking at shipping costs on their site.... shipping for the full kit is about $140 to me which totals the kit out at $1457.07. If i but everything but the header it comes to $989.00 but shipping jumps up to $228.37 for a total of $1217.37. I emailed customer service to see if there is anything they can do about the shipping charge. Just seems excessive to come close to doubling the shipping charge when im ordering less.

Johnny_K 07-25-2017 02:45 PM

I also like RB and thats what i have on the BB FD.

And yea shipping cost is stupid.

Apparently I’ll have to call to place the order so they can appropriately adjust the shipping.

It did sound like it had a hole in it. . like it was from the split air pipe.

We have a good friend that could make you one. Don't know the cost though.

Do it!

I mitigated the split air pipe issue. Unbolted it and stuffed the hole on the exhaust with JB Weld. Its sounds like now its leaking from the manifold.

I think I'm going to... but after I get my wheels powder coated. I can hardly stand to look at the stupid wheels on it anymore.

Can anyone recommend a good place to have them powder coated?

Johnny_K 07-26-2017 02:35 PM

This guy PC some wheels for me back when i was drifting
http://www.bamcustoms.com/ he's also on FB.

Was the quality good? I got a quote from Middle Tennessee Powder Coating. Pricing is consistent with what I've seen so far but he said they are like 10-12 weeks out right now. I was really hoping to get it done sooner.

Yes and yes

Shepard is out of the country at the moment.

And sorry, but I don't think an NA FC is worth the $$$ amount that either one of those two would charge for an exhaust system.

Dustin wanted to charge me over $2000 to fix the frame rail on the Cosmo. Carter did it in one evening, for free. (well returning a favor).

I mean.. you can't really fault someone running a business for charging you what they are worth. It obviously wasnt worth $2000 to you but again..... business is business. If I wanted a custom exhaust for my car I would expect the price/quality to reflect custom.

djmtsu 07-27-2017 10:10 AM

It was 'side work', not through the business.........I don't ask for discounts from people I know.

In that case I can understand your frustration.

You never know till you ask. . You get what you pay for, you know that. (With that said) Each time I've been to Coffey, I was sure I would have spent more than I did. And Dustin. . I can't relate because I have helped him just as he has helped me but I can say he does great work. Just saying, you never know. . Kyle, I'd ask if you had your own set-up in mind.

Moot point in my opinion.

Not in particular. I really like the idea of the true dual set up and I've always loved the Racing Beat sound. On my old car I had the street header and presilencer and bought an Apexi N1 (god awfully loud) muffler. So I just went to an exhaust shop and had a buy bend pipe and weld up to that set up. It probably cost me around $1000 all said and done. So really spending an extra $400 isnt a huge deal for all of it in one go.

project86 08-02-2017 04:56 PM

Just put in the order for the exhaust. Its gonna take me forever to pay off..

FC Zach 08-02-2017 09:24 PM

djmtsu 08-03-2017 09:22 AM

Get that driveshaft off yet.....................Sally?

:suspect:

No. I sprayed it down with PB Blaster a couple days ago. I'm gonna see if I can get if off tonight. If not Im gonna put the bolts back in and have Adler do it for me.

FC Zach 08-03-2017 09:40 PM

Have you hit it yet?

....Wait.... I thought PB Blaster, if left on long enough, would just cause it to fall off......

Got my exhaust in on Saturday. I was really dreading taking the old one off but it actually came off pretty easily. I also swapped out my drive shaft. Unfortunately I’m still getting the vibrations. So I guess I still need to figure out that .... maybe it’s just the hideous wheels. But.... the car sounds great now and doesn’t smell as bad.

djmtsu 08-14-2017 09:43 AM

Awwwww yeah!!!

Exhaust manifold studs came off easy?

The studs didnt come out.. the nuts came off fine though. I used the other half of my floor jack handle to break the 2 top ones loose... one was not even finger tight and the other wasnt bad to get off wit a ratchet.

infernosg 08-14-2017 11:42 AM

Bent or out-of-round wheels will definitely cause vibrations. Forgive me for not going back through the thread but what's the nature of the vibration? My DD had a bent wheel. It was originally on the back and made a low, rumbling sound between 45-70 mph. It wasn't until I rotated the wheels and it was on the front that it was really noticeable, but again only from 45-70 mph.

Well at first it was just I noticed that it was happening during driving. But It was also happening during free revving too. But I replaced the driveshaft after Adler looked and said the joints in my old one were basically falling apart. I want to say that the vibration has lessened since replacing the ds but its kinda hard to say.

It doesnt really get worse or better with RPM increase. But I have noticed that in 3rd gear between 3-4k it seems heavier (I know that this isnt helpful haha).

FC Zach 08-14-2017 03:27 PM

What has changed since driving the car home? Are the wheels the same ones on the car? Did it not do this on that trip?

Yes the wheels are the same and it did do this on the road trip. It SEEMS to have smoothed out some since the driveshaft swap. I was trying to rule things out so the trans mounts and motor mounts have also been replaced.

FC Zach 08-14-2017 11:28 PM

Well, my guess is wheels. . If we're still on for this Fri. and you haven't picked up your wheels from Charles yet, I can bring my 7 so we can swap my wheels onto yours for testing. Let me know so I can drive it. . Actually, what I may do is remove them at home and bring them in the car but again, let me know.

djmtsu 08-15-2017 08:04 AM

The wheels would be a good guess. They are terrible.....

Zach has a good plan, but you need to get your old ones from Charles!!
