Hylomar is really really anoying to work with, but amazing stuff

JShiz 01-27-2009 11:53 PM

Nice. I can't wait until you put everything together. Why not just make one dedicated build thread and keep updating it?

-xlr8planet- 01-28-2009 09:26 AM

Too late maybe ...

Im still a bit worried about it

Not sure if its gonna work. Makes 6 solid WOOSH sounds, but I feel the apex seals a bit jammed. One the rear rotor they move freely against the spring force, on the front... takes a lot to move them.

I guess Im gonna have to wait till the engine is in the car to make a real comp test and find out

Took me a whole day just to do this...

no gasket on the front cover, not sure if you guys agree on this

Not bad. Not sure about the no gasket though, I would think it'll be ok though.

As long as you dont hear screaching and the engine still rotates freely w/ the wooshes, you'll probably be ok.

Good thing is rotaries will run pretty much on any setup - bad build or good. Its the first rebuild, if it makes it 15K miles vs 100K miles, what matters is you built it and you've learned a new skill :)

Thanks man, I needed kind words today.

I ported the hell out of the engine, I wanna take this car to drag races

Lets hope the engine turns out ok

I'm sure it'll be ok for a while. After seeing some rebuilds put together with practically ALL used parts and in a hurry and still make it down the track, I'm sure it'll work out, lol.

Very nice shots, xlr8. I hope your hard efforts and cleanliness pay off in yummy performance goodness!

Kentetsu 02-03-2009 09:34 AM

One of these days I'll have to do some porting. I'd love to have the extra hp, but right now I'm too into autocrossing and class restrictions don't allow for any porting. Eventually I'll probably move up to a class that does allow it, but then I'd need all other kinds of upgrades to keep up (bigger brakes, bigger tires/wheels, and the list goes on and on).

I hope your build works out for you. But even if it doesn't, just remember to take the knowledge you've picked up and keep going. Nothing is a total loss... :)

Good deal my friend. You took the challenge and that alone is worth praising. Good luck.

takahaski.r 02-04-2009 07:40 PM

that looks as though it'd be way more efficient than the factory setup, much broader area.
do you plan on putting a screen on there?

the screen is a big restriction to flow.

I have to be VERY carefull with the sealant when installing the oil pan
