rebuild

would i b able 2 rebuild my 13bt just with a workshop manual???

djmtsu 01-22-2010 07:41 AM

If you can closely follow instructions, and measure everything 3 times, than of course you can!

If not, there are plenty of builders here that can help you out.

Technically, no, you will need the following:

Engine hoist
engine stand
rotary engine stand adaptor
a metric set of sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers
a rotary engine rebuild kit
any needed housings, rotors, etc
A proper, heated, secure working facility
about 40 hours of actual work, give or take.
A variety cleaning solvents, grease, sealants etc.

So no, you can't rebuild your engine using paper for apex seals! :D

EDIT: on the other hand, you are trying to ask if the DIRECTIONS in the Haynes manual are adequate enough, then yes... somewhat... if you already have some experience rebuilding the engine... so no, not really, not for your first time.

I suggest buying a black ink cartidge for your car, and then printing the engine rebuild section from the online Factory Service Manual... (should be 50~60 pages or so) As well as purchasing a few rotary engine rebuild DVD's from Atkins, Mazdatrix, etc.

Max777 01-22-2010 07:24 PM

obviously kidding.

The reason I did that was because of your post's title, and the sentence structure you used:

the way you said it, it seems like you meant to say your reply was a year earlier or something when they were both relatively close.

i dont think the engine stand adapter is that needed. Buckets can work.

It is really nice though.

TitaniumTT 01-26-2010 09:35 AM

I built a bitchin one outta scrap metal and about an hour of time.....

Then again I also have

175A MIG welder
Plasma cutter
Drill press
powdercoating

Don't forget to add to that list of tools

a GOOD set of Feeler gauges
220/1000 grit grinding stone
Dial calipers
torque wrench
Flywheel stopper
Dead Blow

I used a bucket to take apart one of mine... never again, haha.

I actually bought one from pineapple racing, but let a friend borrow it and never got it back... fuck.

also, I'm the type that likes to fully assemble my shit on the stand, and then feed the harness through the firewall rather than taking it all apart to remove the harness and then pulling it out... some stuff on these is a real bitch to assemble once the engine is in the car.

TitaniumTT 01-26-2010 11:31 PM

pssssshhhhhhh You need to get with the times ;)

Dead blow, BFH, handy hammer.. whatever people call them these days.

TitaniumTT is in the Insomniac's Anonymous Support group for over achiever car fabricators union. Its voluntary though, he makes all his money trading stocks for Krating Daeng (otherwise known as Red Bull) and whoring his hands out (note my signature quote). ;)

13bboy 01-27-2010 08:35 PM
