my rotary samurai rebuild
so is a 1986 Suzuki samurai with a 12a..... ok so i took over this project if you are going to critique the wheels please dont post i bought it with the wheels i dont know if i like them yet they are 20" wheels here is how i bought it:
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...8069/jeep2.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3.../jeeeeeeep.jpg So we started by taking out the eng to se what we were working with http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0135.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0136.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0140.jpg after opening up the eng i dont even know how it was running you got to love a 12a the rotors and housing are no good not even the 3mm apex seals can fix them so if anyone know where i could get a hold of 1 12a housing and the rotors hit me up. i recived all the parts for the sami but there is still much work http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0138.jpg this harnest is worth less i bought one from ez wiring http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0137.jpg almost all cleaned up getting it ready fro paint http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0146.jpg the i removed the dash and all the wires http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0145.jpg i am replacing it with an all aluminum one just like this one http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/newdash3.jpg this is the set up im going with: 12a half BP all seals replased with atkins (apex, side, and solid corner, 93 corner spring) replacing everything with new stage 1 exedy clutch with a holley 600 holley blue fuel pump all new electronic gauges (found a place that would custom make the speedo sending unit) the samurai had the rear end replaced with a dana 44 so i bought 4.55 ring and pinion with all new install kit i will keep up dating the pictures |
Man, this thing reminds me of a mini MB Galenwagen, you should do a front end conversion, it would be bad ass!

COOL!! Can't wait to see more.
Awesome project, good luck with her.
That's cool! I didn't know anyone had ever done a swap like this, a rotary into a Samurai. Definitely keep us posted!
where you getting the dash from? ditch the wheels and get a lift and some nice wheels and tall tires....
Nice! Just wondering, where are you from? There's a couple guys here in MI with rotary-powered Samurais, one of them with a ported n/a something (not sure if it's 12A or 13B) and another with a 13Bt. Just wondering if you're somehow connected.

If I'm not mistaken a rotary Samurai swap is pretty common in Puerto Rico. Those guys will throw a rotary engine in anything.
I'm not a fan of the wheels but I LOVE that dash! I'd love to make/get something like that for the RX-7 some day. |
I'm getting the dash from petroworks.com I don't know anyone in that area whith the samurais on the picture but thoes are the wheels I was debating on puting on I like it time to trade wheels lol
Keep us posted on it and post vids of it running. Thanks for the link.
This is another good site this people make a custom speed sensor so you can use electronic seedometers *instead of mechanical www.speedometersolutions.com $98 shipped
today felt like christmas i got all my parts but the gauges which should be here tomorrow
the dash http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0177.jpg MSD coils http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0176.jpg racing beat mani http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0175.jpg speed sensor to switch from mechanical to electronic speedo http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0174.jpg holley 1850-2 http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0173.jpg i also received the shipment from Atkins but every thing is wrapped and i dont want to open them till I'm ready to use parts i also received the holley blue fuel pump. i will be picking up the housing and rotor that i need tomorrow. |
dude your car is sooo cool. I love the dash picture you posted up that's sick!
So I just found out that my lug pattern is 5x5.5 so there goes the idea of weld wheels might have to go with rock crawling wheels and street tires the 20s will have to do till I find a good option
the eng compartment is painted and the eng is closed pics up soon
BUCKET BUILDING, Hell yes!!!!!
Very cool...Why half-bridge though? Why not full bridge? With a half bridge don't you get all the cons of a bridge but less power?
nice build up ya got there
new pics 99% done
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0125.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0126.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0119.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0122.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0115.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0120.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0121.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0123.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0118.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0117.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h3...9/IMG_0116.jpg |
Damn!
You've come a long way in the last 4 months. Looking good. |

Looks good, did you keep the divorced transfer case and 4wd? From the interior pics it looks like the shifter is gone.
No i didnt its a 2wd but i know of a place that all they sell is Samurai parts And they Ship .... Let me know if u want the info
Na, I don't have a Sammy anymore. I was just wondering if you kept the 4wd because it's easy with the stock transfer case.
I wish but when i bought it, it was allready converted to 2wd

the rpm and speedo are the scx and the rest are scx pro the speedo is electrical speedo but i got a converter to go from mechanical to electrical from http://www.speedometersolutions.com/ |
Cool project, looking good.
Nice !
That thing is awesome. Just needs some crazy ass suspension and you're golden.
Nice Samuari. Makes me wish even more that I had held onto mine. :(
I would recommend ditching the leaf springs, and swapping to coils. Much better ride quality and articulation. :) |
do you have any idea where or how i could do this conversion from leaf to coil
do you have any idea how hard it id to find a 12a engine here in japan?
looking good!
I am not sure that suspension should be as high on the priority list as 4X4 (a must). How else can you use all your power? Have you had it running yet? (I saw 4 miles on the odometer, so I figured you had). How does the carb handle the bridgeport? |
taking offers come its still for sale
