very clean great job!

I have a 6.5" 200wrms woofer behind my seat. Goes more then hard enough in this car and I get to keep my boot. However had to put my amps somewhere so this is what I came up with, just waiting for my mate to get enough spare time to put padded vinyl over it.

Lol. Stock Bose with the Axxess iPod Integration kit.

I stopped giving a shit when someone stole all my shit out of my FC a few years ago. I had an Alpine DVD system with a JL 10" and Kenwood Amp. It sounded pretty good.

When I replaced the system, I just popped in a shitty Pioneer CD/MP3 player.

Herblenny 06-28-2010 02:14 PM

I've been collecting McIntosh stuff for the past 5 years... One day, it will go in my car.. when, not sure..

RETed 06-28-2010 02:53 PM

Okay, I guess the term "clean" has changed over the years...
When I was into car audio back in the 90's, the term "clean" implied HIDDEN.
Almost all the pics I've seen in the thread has them boldly displayed in plain view for all to see.
This would not have been classified as "clean" back in the day...

Ted do you remember these subs from "back in the day". These are Godfather M&M Poly Subwoofers. These things came with a lifetime warranty, if you blew them they would fix them. Too bad they went out of business about 15 yrs. ago.

These were going to be my original install (2-15"), until I got the single 18" JL.

Interrestingly enough, back in the day (at least for me), 'clean' stereo meant minimal sound distortion by placing speakers carefully and strategically to properly recreate the sounds that you were trying to recreate. This meant several small tweaters, some larger mid-range speakers and some larger bass (not really a modern subwoofer) speakers in the back. A good amplifier would allow the adjustment of the bass and treble to each channel to get a good 'clean' sound. (Obviously you needed a good antenna too).

Word definitions are very strange.

Nevertheless, I will say that in a lot of those pictures, the installations were tidy-looking.

I will say that I have had too many cars with stolen radios to want to spend money on another stereo system (although I might have to put one in the '91 as it's factory radio has died).

That is sexy.... I approve that shifter as well, had one in the FC for a while:icon_tup:

Here's my truck, All Apline - 6.5" components front, 5.25 co ax in the rear, 10" shallow mount sub, PDX5 amp, Sirius, I-pod, 6-disc changer...... road trip anyone

http://rotarycarclub.com/rotary_foru...a3032f0907.jpg

And the door panels for the FC. Rear is under construction for a new PDX5 amp, same as the truck. All Alpine as well, 6.5"components front and rear, 12" Dr. Crankenstein sub from WAY back in the day but I'm swapping that for an Apline or Boston sub. Prob a boston for a little warmer sound, I love the Bostons

Those are crossovers for the components (mid/tweeter) he has in his doors.

Very nice setup by the way. I love that box in your truck, it's nice.

classicauto 06-29-2010 09:19 AM

And what does the crossover achieve?

splits the signal up... woofer only gets the mids and lows... while the tweeter gets the highs.

Look at any modern speaker in walmart per say. They have the big part which is the bass, then theres that small speaker stuck in the middle. It saves space. The more expensive and generally better sounding has these seperated, you need the cossover to take the stock two wire speaker wires and split it into 4 wires to run the separate tweeter (small speaker stuck in the middle) and the woofer from 1 speaker source from the radio.

i agree with RETed. Clean is good stuff discreetly placed in the car. like if you had a sub molded into the storage bin but the lid was removeable or something. but all i have is a kenwood head unit, and 4 stock speakers, which 2 dont even work. and i like it that way.

RotorDad 02-17-2012 02:44 PM

You all have some nice looking set ups, maybe one day I will try to put together a decent stereo.
