BNR Turbos, sheets and engine spec plz!
Hi, im new to this page and am just starting to mod my 90 EU TII vert.. And I am trying to suck up as much info as possible about how to do this right. Could you guys with BNR turbos write down your engine spec, BNR stage and maybe some dynosheets? I have a 3 inch straight exhaust, FCD, stock primaries, 720cc secondaries, walbro fuel pump and FMIC. For this winter I probably be buying a koyo rad and a Apexi PFC. Then when the economy allows it I will rebuild my engine and do a street port. When that time comes the big question will be; "what turbo".. Awesome forum btw, thanks guys!

here is a link of my dyno run on a stage 2 Bnr

Wow, u put down some good numbers there. I didnt know you could get that much HP with 2 1/2" downpipe, stock ports and 720 secondaries! Good job man. I guess your car is really fun to drive, with no turbolag and good response. I am thinking about doing the stage 3 BNR with a pfc and streetport. I think the streetport will help much on spooling the turbo and I will have a nice powerband and put down 350+BHP. I want a engine with good response without turbolag and only power at the last thousand RPM`s. Will the stage 3 be too big for that? I will boost 15psi i guess..

Your fuel injectors are not big enough.

350+ will require a lot of fuel. I made 409whp on an older TII of mine with a 255lph fuel pump, 720 primaries and 1680 secondaries at 14psi. The only reason it stopped there was because there wasn't enough fuel to go any further. Now the injectors them selves were good until a little over 500, but what are you doing for a fuel pump?
Also, with stock primaries and only 720 secondaries... your pushing it at 300whp. and pushing it hard. Anything over 80% duty cycle on your injectors is not a good thing. So just because you can run them at 90 or 100% duty cycle with a standalone, but that dosn't mean you should. I would at a minimum, get 1000cc secondaries for a 350whp goal. But that's only because I use methanol as an additive. Without any AI, just get some 1680's Bosch style. they drop right in to the stock fuel rail. |
Ofcourse im gonna get some bigger injectors. The reason i am having 550 pri and 720 is because im just having FMIC, straight exhaust and open filter.. As soon as im getting a pfc, streetport and so on im gonna upgrade my fuel system.. You guys have any input on the BNR turbos? Did you have a BNR turbo when u made 409whp?

BNR Stage 1

Here's a sheet from a recent dyno run. Car has a BNR Stage 1 turbo, 750cc RC secondaries, 3" RB REV-II turbo-back exhaust system, Supra TT fuel pump, Bonez intake, and Apexi S-AFC II tuning.
Tried the Rtek 1.7 chip, but the tuner could not get a safe AFR, so had to revert to a stock ECU and rely on the S-AFC for tuning. Engine runs awesome on the track. It does have an intermittent starting problem and a bit of a rough idle, which I will address during the off season. May try chipping a different ECU. |
Thanks for uploading your sheet. Funny track car i believe ;) I guess this proves you can have much fun with a FC with just minor modifications. How much boost did you run?

Okay, is there anyone out there with a BNR stage 3 or more with a stage 2? It`s between the 2 or 3 for me now i think.

It has a larger compressor wheel. Will that hurt spool-up? I will rather have response than 40HK extra.

i had stage 3 and couldnt get much more than 300whp out of it. if i were you i would get stage 4, but ask for unclipped p-trim wheel. you may get a little creep, but its not too bad, makes up for it in spool.
whtever happend to BNR vendor section? |

Definitely put the car on the dyno before you run it too hard with the mods. Rtek 1.7 purports to be mapped to 720cc or so secondaries, but like Reagan used to say, trust but verify.:) |

FMIC no emissions stock turbo cleaned 550s, new RC750s Rtek 1.7 keeping mop old school RB full T2 exhaust (large diameter, 1pc DP/presilencer to catback) FD fuel pump (Denso's aftermarket replacement for a FD and supraTT pump are the same part#) Innovate WB Thanks for the info. I've got no emissions or AWS but only need to hold the throttle for just a second or two and then it idle's fine. I've ran mine at an autocross road course and it ran well. What were the AFRs before you made the switch? With a FMIC mine does well (in the 11s) in 3rd gear but my boost bleeds down to about 8psi. In 4th (interstate) it will creep past 12psi to 13,14,15 and the AFRs ride quickly. I once saw a 13AFR but backed off quickly. Luckily, I don't have the need for full boost in 4th gear so the problem doesn't present itself... I just have to remember. Next step was going to be either port the wastegate or go BNR stage1, so its good to know what people have tried. I just want to know if the RTEK 1.7 is going to be enough ahead of time and not pop the motor. |

Here's the sheet showing the AFRs getting very close to 14:1. Tuner shut it down at that point and we went to Plan B, which was, as I said earlier, to replace the Rtek-chipped ECU with a stock unit and using the S-AFCII for tuning.
If you have not had your car on a dyno, or using some other way, to verify safe AFRs, I would recommend that you do that before pushing the revs. |
my setup:
bnr stage 4 megasquirt walbro 255 custom v-mount stock 550 primaries 1600 secondaries 2.5" exhaust stock ports 16 psi making 385-400 hp 300hp has been made with the stage 1 your power all depends on how good your tune is |
