RX-7 Gas Milage, MPG

Is anyone getting better than 20.8 MPG on the highway at speeds of 75 or below?

I have 850 pri and 1600 sec injectors with streetport.

ObliqueFD 03-25-2008 06:32 PM

I got 22 once. I also have an auto with 3.9 gears, so I'm sure that's why there is a difference.

djmtsu 03-25-2008 06:34 PM

Well, I have a 2nd gen, but I get about 26MPG on the highway (70mph+). It baffled everyone last year on the DGRR caravan how I had almost a 1/4 more tank of gas when we arrived than they did, and they were all NA.

Turbo swapped GXL with no emissions and full exhaust.

josh18_2k 03-25-2008 07:14 PM

29mpg with teh CC on

How in the hell did you get that mileage...your car was running so rich my eyes watered :dunno:

djmtsu 03-25-2008 09:11 PM

No clue, but my shit was sipping gas. Maybe you are just 'sensitive'.

Lol.

I had a black R1 that I purchased from Herblenny. When I sold it, I drove it to Michigan and got 28mpg all highway. My red FD gets around 23-25mpg on the highway normally and around 20mpg mixed(still mostly highway). If it drops down alot, start checking your fuel system.

Right...Then why did it backfire so much:willy_nilly:

As soon as I get off the Highway it drops to 12 to 15. Last year at DGRR I was getting about 7Mpg on the dragon.

SPICcnmFD 03-26-2008 07:22 AM

I usually get around 14-17 driving around. If I drive it to work for a while I'll get around 19. I did get 22-23 going from here to ATL running 80-82mph a couple of weeks ago, amazed me. And for the track I'll usually get between 6-8 depending on which track.

bbade 03-26-2008 10:55 AM

I managed to get from Allentown, PA to Bumblef*ck, Ontario on 3/4 of a tank of gas. I'm not sure the mileage because I didn't think to look before I left. The 7 is usually pretty good on the highway, but if I really get on it I can watch the needle drop haha.

afterburn27 03-26-2008 12:03 PM

My car easily got 28mpg highway (with hills). This was with stock fuel/ignition/twins/ports, rx7.com chipped ECU, and almost every other bolt on.

I'm sure the intake, DP, MP, and catback actually helped highway mileage.

This is what I posted on RX8 sub forum..

From there to next gas station, I was averaging about 90+ MPH (with occasional 120+MPH pulls) and 117 Miles I filled up 6.2Gallons!!

Bottom line, I'm getting better MPG on my FD than my 8 :)

It took me 2hours and45 mins to go from Downtown Bham to Downtown Nashville with 2 stops.. I thought i did pretty good.

I've regularly gotten 24 to 26 via interstate on essentially stock manual car (DP, Catback K & N). Where I live it's rolling hills to flat.
Way less around town, but I've never taken the time (maybe too afraid) to check that mileage.

mazpower 03-28-2008 06:02 PM

Best I've done is 24 mpg on the freeway, averaging 75. This is with a half-bridgeport, T-66 turbo, E6K, yadda yadda. :)

DaveW 03-28-2008 06:17 PM

I regularly get 24-26 mpg on the freeways at 75 mph.

Chadwick 03-28-2008 06:41 PM

I've been getting 1.4 mpg :ack2:

led foot with a hot motor huh.
I get about 19 highway with your 'old' motor Dan.

Stay out of the boost and you will pickup about 5 mp.. never mind, what fun is that. :D

Doc-1 04-05-2008 08:11 PM

I am not certian but I pretty sure I do get any of that. My FD never saw a gas station it did not like.

skiREparts 04-08-2008 12:06 PM

went from Jacksonville to mobile AL(420mi) and used 18gallons running around 75, same trip at 85 used 20 gal. Not bad since I have a gas guzzler 02 tranny in it. 5th gear is at almost 4k at 85!!!!

We need to get Chuck to chime in here and let us know what to shoot for. ;)

nissanconvert 11-25-2008 12:40 PM

I got just over 16 mostly city trying to troubleshoot boost control.

afgmoto1978 11-25-2008 01:36 PM

I was getting a little over 320 miles to the tank driving down to Seven Stock this year, average speed was 85-90 mph. AFRs was in the 17s with cruise control on. On the track it's below 10 mpg.

Terrh 11-27-2008 02:01 AM

my rx-7's haven't burned a single gallon of gas this year.

I think i need to start driving them more.

Terrh 11-27-2008 02:02 AM

16-17's AFR may run the engine fine but are not too friendly to your turbo or apex seals.

Run stoich and more timing to get better MPG, you'll have lower EGT's and your engine will thank you.

albertomg 12-01-2008 01:26 PM

After my recent Steve Kan tune, I got 22.8 MPG on a highway drive from San Francisco to Irvine, CA for Sevenstock. That included a run up to 130 MPH and average speeds of 80-85 MPH. W/o any banzai runs, averaging 80 driving up to Thunderhill I got about 24 MPG iirc.

Won't hurt it at all under cruise

Cp1 12-03-2008 04:51 PM

this weekend i went on a road trip and there were 380miles total with 70 in the city i averaged 18.5 mpg

hades 12-03-2008 07:06 PM

That's about what I've been getting.

Though on the track, it went up to 6.5 :)

Ranger 12-12-2008 03:28 PM

In my FD with RB exhaust, no cats and no emissions, I got around 25MPG on the highway, and I got around 18MPG in town. AFRs were around 15 cruising and 12-13 under boost. I usually averaged around 325-375 miles per tank depending on how much highway driving I did.
