Are you old enough to have done the following?

A) typed a report for school on a typewriter
B) dialed a rotary telephone
C) peeled the aluminum foil off of your TV dinner cooked in a oven
D) played Rock em Sock em Robots

I was there when they invented forum spammers...

speedjunkie 03-17-2011 09:27 AM

Glad I'm not the only one to find this odd for a first post LOL.

I also find it odd even for a spammer though. What is the point?

lt1_fd3s 03-17-2011 09:35 AM

may be a spammer...but still fun!

FC Zach 03-17-2011 09:37 AM

Remember pogs? ?

t_g_farrell 03-17-2011 09:42 AM

I had one of the first video games ever made, PONG.

Anyway, didn't realize it was a spammed post. Oh well.

FC Zach 03-17-2011 09:44 AM

Yes to all of the above.... And I had the ORIGINAL Rock em Sock em robots, where all the KO noises made were purely mechanical - no electronic sound effects like the ones my kids had!

rxtasy3 03-17-2011 12:32 PM

lets just say that when i started driving, gas was like .68/gal. and my first video game console as a kid was the atari 2600.

a quick search revealed this site on current values:
http://www.atari2600.com/priceguide/

I never had a video game console, but I do recall waiting in LOOOONG lines during the 1st gas crisis (Carter administration) to buy some of that $0.68 per gallon gas!

I saw this when it was 1st posted and thought the same thing about forum spam. but did not see any links and decided to let it play out.

djmtsu 03-17-2011 08:16 PM

Done all that.

Had the Atari 2600, and I raise you a Commodore 64

The original Test Drive was EPIC!

RotorDad 03-17-2011 08:40 PM

Yes, and I spent it outside crushing the neighborhood kids at street hockey. Then I turned 13 and bought a boat and my summers were spent as the neighborhood pimp/whore

rx71king 03-18-2011 10:20 AM

this thread is to make us feel old....:spam:

t_g_farrell 03-18-2011 11:38 AM

Who remembers being in grade school watching live coverage of the moon landings?

What about the Nixon impeachment?

Or the evening TV news coverage of Vietnam?

Buying cigs for 50 cent a pack.

lt1_fd3s 03-18-2011 11:59 AM

damn spam accounts causing interaction on the forum!

somchhir1 03-18-2011 12:28 PM

Yes again to all of the above. That last one had me LMAO.... I'm a non-smoker, but back in those days in Brooklyn NY where I grew up, my dad & mom would often send me to the stores up the street to buy stuff for them and cigs & beer were on the shopping list. I was maybe 9~12 years old, and the corner store guy would sell me whatever I asked for without question. Sad but you can't send your kid to do that anymore in today's "gov't knows best" nanny welfare state!

Doc-1 03-20-2011 07:26 AM

Yes to all and a TV was too expensive in the 50's for us to have one...was black and white when we did and 1 channel for 12 hours a day and a lot of places in New Mexico had out door plumbing until the mid 60's..grew up using a 2 meter rig for phone calls and .............

diabolical1 03-23-2011 03:24 AM

yes on all counts.

i, too, had an Atari 2600 and i started out with Pac Man, Defender and Missile Command.
i had a black-n-white TV, my dad had 8-tracks and i had vinyl. we had a Corona ... and i don't mean beer.

speedjunkie 03-23-2011 11:48 AM

^I have a friend who is about to finish restoring a Corona.

diabolical1 03-23-2011 02:34 PM

jeez ... if you ever get your hands on any shots of it, please, please don't feel any misgivings about sending me some. :)

Garfinkles Motor Works 03-28-2011 05:07 AM

I remember paying seventeen cents per gal for American reg gasoline . Twenty five cents for American white high test .Some of my motorcycles had the shift on the right and some had a twist hand shifter .

terrent 04-10-2012 04:17 PM

Yes. And I still have a working Underwood typewriter and rotary phone.
Speaking of early video games, my family had a pong clone from Radio Shack. Ah, good times. :)

Dude you didnt look that old!

Only done 2 out of 4 Rotary phone and Robots, but I had a atari and amiga!

RotorDad 04-11-2012 02:30 PM

LOL Not too old, but old enough I guess. My son is 16 now & I blame him for my now graying hair, thus the reason for a bald head.

joewrx8 04-11-2012 03:16 PM

and I remember getting my first drivers licence 50 years ago.

GySgtFrank 04-11-2012 08:38 PM

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. How about being able to buy high performance muscle cars for a couple hundred bucks? And being able to actually afford the gas to drive it. So much fun when you put your foot to the floor, you could actually watch the gas gauge creep it's way down.

joewrx8 04-11-2012 08:47 PM

bought new Road Runner in 1969, $2700.00. 8 MPG

RLM55 04-11-2012 09:19 PM

bought a used 1969 Javelin in 1973, $1100.00. Also 8 MPG
