Fall B3R 2013 - Oct 19-20
Ok, so the date is set as Oct 19th - 20th.
Those who have came in the past know how I am... and how I do things. I enjoy the group effort and everyone helping out to make this a great event. This involves setup, cooking, clean up, etc... DO NOT RELY ON ANYONE BUT YOURSELF FOR YOU TO HAVE A GOOD TIME!!! if you have questions about anything, please ASK!!! The biggest part of the larger group get together is happening from Saturday evening and Sunday morning... Saturday - Oct 19 ?? - 6pm - make your way to Flaming Arrow camp ground in Whittier NC 6 pm - At Flaming Arrow Campground, start the fire(s), prepare for the cookout and the evening. * Anyone who wishes to help with the grilling, please, don't hesitated to help out the others. We've all been to cook outs before, so this tends to run pretty smoothly. Sunday - Oct 20 Breakfast - Individual Effort!!! - in other words, it's on you, go to cherokee, bring something, it's up to you... 10 am - For those who wish to do it, we will leave from Cherokee, back on the Parkway to Asheville. We will make 2 main stops for 15-30 min - 1st - figure it out on the way! =] - 2nd - just past Pisgah Mountain Inn (~mile marker 408) The stop at the Pisgah Mountain Inn is where I will consider the end of the event. This helps keep the GA folks from driving too far out of the way to get back home. Anyone who wishes to follow with me the remaining few miles back to Asheville are more than welcome... As we grow, things are going to change... this year I'm not going to lead a convoy on Saturday and everyone stopping in the same places as a group like I have in the years past. Not many of the over looks had space for everyone to park last year... This year no one is on "my schedule" on Saturday and I invite you to make your way down the parkway at a pace you enjoy, stopping as often as you like to take in the beauty of the area. And I will see you at the campsite later that evening. Below I am posting my Saturday schedule, for anyone who wishes to "be like a native"... Anyone is welcome to join me for all or part of my trip, but I'm serious when I say I won't stop often or for long... just stop at a few of my fav little spots... What I'm doing... 8:30 am - Breakfast in Asheville, NC - Cracker Barrel (west asheville - 5 Crowell Road Asheville 28806) 9:30 - 10am - Gas up, final checks on the car and gear... 10 am - Get on the road, head up down Smoky Parky hwy to Pisgah Hwy (NC hwy 151) to the Parkway and go South... * I'll probably make one or two short stops - 10-15 min stops - and then continue on my way... ~ 1pm - Arrive at the campground, check in and claim our group sites. 1pm - 6pm - hang out, get lunch in cherokee, get food for the evening, collect fire wood... If you have any questions, please ask... I know that Holly and Jeremy usually coordinate the ATL crowd... If you would like a list of hotels in the Asheville area for Friday night, let me know, and I'll give you to look into. http://www.blueridgerotaryrun.com/im...9/IMG_0408.jpg Picture taken by Kevin (ZGN) |

Well... the camp ground is closed due to the government shut down... i'll still make the drive that day but I no clue if the camp ground will be open when i get there..
i'll keep an eye on it and if it opens then i'll let people know, if not, then i understand if folks don't come down... this is annoying... |
:( There has to be an alternative location.
|
i've been looking into a few other camp grounds... all of them are proving to be higher priced and don't have group sites... i'll figure something out by monday and post up..
|
I can't think of any state parks close by. Frozen Head in Morgan County, but that's close to Oak Ridge, not the Smokies.

FOUND A CAMP SITE!!
Flaming Arrow camp ground... 5 miles from the end of the parkway... http://www.flamingarrowcampground.com/groups.htm the picture on that page is the area that we will be in... Jonie recommends air mattresses and prefers cans over bottles... biggest thing, like always, be respectful of the area, throw trash away... no cans nor plastic nor bottles in the fire... camp ground does have wifi and power and hot showers... |
Alright! Games on. $%$# the Feds. I got brew and I'm still up for meeting the OGTA coming up from GA in the Brevard Walmart lot.
|
Who all is coming?
|
1. Tray something rotary???
2. Tim 80 SA RX7 === 2 |
So this is from Joni...
Directions from the Blue Ridge Parkway: Turn Left at the end of the Blue Ridge which is Hwy. 441 South. When you get to Cherokee, continue following 441S through town (don't take 441 Business). When you come to a sign that says you are leaving the Cherokee Reservation, (McDonalds on your left) continue South 1 mile and the campground entrance is on the left. (Don't turn into the little motel---our big arrow points up the road to the campground.) |
Only 2 people? As much as I like you two guys I might miss this one. :(
|
Jamin and Toby are coming... Richard and his wife are coming down from Indy again... Grand Rapids Mich. is coming again this year...

|
Any pics of the new campground?!
|
I think some pics can be found on 7club... mostly of us sitting around the fire so it doesn't look much different than the old one, but the terrain isn't as flat... fire pits were old 18-wheeler wheels... i hear they go "tonk" when you hit them with your head...
|
Just checked it out, I like it! We'll have to give them business next time. What's up with the tonk and head?
|
Someone post some pics here! Never heard of this 7club.
:) |
oh, i was running to get another beer (from what i was told... i know that wasn't my intention when i left the fire) and i tripped... fell... hit my head, it went "tonk" and i got a trip to the ER in a volvo... and 7-8 stitches...
