Whizbang's GSLSE
picked this up for a few hundred since the audi is being sold. ran rough, didnt want to start unless i poured gas on the filter, and had some low oil pressure. The engine is an S4 motor, recently swapped, and poorly. moving the distributor didnt change anything. sounds different than a one rotor situation, engine had even strong "poofs", and it has no power.
i think the low oil pressure is the front cover o-ring going to be taking a peek here this week. I got all the S4 ecu, wiring, and sensor bits to just run the S4 stuff in an attempt to get the car running right. Began the process of making the S4 wiring harness ready for install... (hence the pile of wiring) http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psfe446ac4.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps40473e7d.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6289e25e.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psbe010250.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8a220a5e.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3f2929a6.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1e27de9b.jpg |
Congrats! It looks great for the price.

hows the springs been in my absence? |
Been pretty good here. Had some folks leave but more always move to town. When are you coming back? lol
|
well, trying to find an M12x1.5 bolt about 150mm long is completely impossible without waiting a week for two silly bolts. In leiu of doing that, im justing going to use an SAE equivalent. Not like you really need to drop subframes all the time.
So with that, today I should have the FC subframe installed. Just need to remove the rear studs, drill, and weld in the new stubs. Then viola! |
|
looking pretty good so far.
|
so... by using the fc crossmember, you can use the fc's rack n pinion? I'd do this to my beige se if I could use it.

but yea, basically i have the FC suspension, brakes, steering etc. |
:coolgleamA:
|
would I have to modify the se's struts to work or modify the fc's?
|
FC struts. Then either FB tops with FB springs, OR FC coilovers (and top hats) by just widening the opening a wee little bit.
there will be pics |
concerning the steering column,do you combine the fc's wiring and the fb's to make it work? i'm assuming the fb column won't work with the fc rack? i have lots of questions.

well I have some bad news bears:
I was cleaning the front cover to put back on then right about when i was done, I noticed a semi-circular chunk ground out of the inside.... uh oh. following Ted's comments about bearings and the nature of e-shafts to migrate I walked over to the motor. The front counter weight had a nice polished around on the edge, like it had been hitting something... uh oh. but she still turned by hand nicely and I couldn't get any play by hand. So i used a small prybar between the counterweight and the front iron. And the whole shebang moved about 3/4"... oh uh... scratch that.... FUCK! at least that explains why the rear main seal was compromised. So yea. car needs an engine... all because some fuckwad didn't torque the wee bolt holding the oil pickup properly and it basically came loose. |
That sucks... tear it down and see whats reusable.. it may be a fairly cheap rebuild still...

So yea, ill have to figure out something. |
CA? Defecting from the USA huh? lol...

some pictures from the progress / regress. Pictures of the suspension / cleaned up the sunroof disaster and installed the glass panel. Then pics of the epic metallic failure.

Got some things done today. The steering rack is installed. Was a three hole rack I depowered per the DIY thread in the archives.
Then i dug up some spare Eibach springs, some B46 Bilsteins, and my ST sway bar. Got all that mess installed. Kinda makes me want to get my clean freak on underneath the car, but that will await. http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps61fa7222.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0f291d32.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps37954927.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psd7c3726c.jpg |
horrah updates! i got me an engine!!! and some wheels!

well today was mostly productive. Worked on converting the large 4 piston / 5 lug braking system to a 4 piston / 4 lug braking system.
My machinist guy in WA burned these out for me from some Al. You have to space the rotor off the hub to make this whole thing work. The spare 3rd spacer i used in conjunction with a spare 4 lug hub i modified to mark up the 5 lug rotors to redrill them. thankfully i have this 250lb monolith of a bench drill press from 1947. The first rotor went on nicely. Somehow i was like 1mm off on the second one so ill probably just drill the holes larger since it centers to the hub anyway. Before I assemble the brakes i want have the rotors turned. http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psa330e29c.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...pse0c80c8f.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps96f6cb08.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7e437ea5.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...pse8038d22.jpg |
eh, i lied, i think i am just going to sand the rotors, and run some cheapy used pads for now. These seem like wonky ass chinese made rotors. The bastards aren't even machine round!!!
Brakes line should be here soon though. Get the calipers on as soon as they show. |
Cleaned the out brackets off the FC column, and used the FB mounts. Slide forward to meet the ujoint. Needs spaced down to get the angle right though.

Wait, what?! You're moving to Cali??!! And defecting from the US? lol Totally agree with that statement lol.

Got the car on the ground! Needs a little more lowering up front to match the rear, but I also do not have all the weight on the car yet.
Also managed to score another glass sunroof for 20 bucks from the pull-a-part! Woo! steering seems finished up. Needs an alignment since it has MASSIVE toe. And the steering wheel is far to close to the dash so ill need a spacer for that. http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psfb669f5d.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0326dd8e.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9b63ab3f.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psd90a70ad.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0a0ba0b4.jpg |
Cool reminds me how excited I was about my bent FB. Lookin good everything almost ready for the move?
|
Nearly. Picking up a trailer today. first load goes to cali this weekend
|
Ok so maybe I missed it but where did you find those wheels!! I love them they look like pissed off evil Panasports..
|
They are enkei compe in 15x8 0 offset
|
Sick!! the GSLSE looks good sitting on them once you get the suspension dialed in..Safe trip to Cali btw!!

some updates now that I am getting settled into California. FC radiator is in. Made the oil cooler lines. most of the intake and fuel stuff is in. Need to finish off the wiring mostly now. Still plenty of "details" to wrap up though.
End up using the FFE injector spaces since I was missing the little injector atomizer things. Worked quite well I'd say. http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psb0b010c9.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4791321f.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...psc78cbf48.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7aeb7305.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7641186c.jpg |
