05 rx8 gt
Here's my new car. I looked for over a month for a winning blue rx8 and I drove to Louisville, KY to get it. The guy bought the car for his wife and it was only driven on sunny days and only around town. She really didn't want to sell it, but her husband was making her. I had to jump on it. It's got black leather, oem rotor rubber mats, spare tire, rear cargo net. So far, I've had to get the maintenance up to date and few other things. It now has a catback exhaust, megan lowering springs, kyb struts, led interior lights, a blue led strip in the trunk, razo shift knob, k&n drop in filter, led tail lights, jdm/uk clear side marker lights, rx8 logo inside a rotor led lights under the doors, rear side flares, zoom zoom decal over the third brake light, plasti dipped the oem wheels. This is it, so far.

What's Purely RX-8?? |
Facebook group for RX-8's. But mostly a complete shit-show on what NOT to do.
|
Thanks, it's good to be back. Titanium, I've seen your fc in person and I absolutely love it! I also remember reading an article about your fc in a mag. I don't remember which one it was, but I know that I still have it. As far as engine options go, I've considered a full bridgeport 20B na. I've also talked to some who have swapped an rew and they said that they are still running the stock ecu for the functions and a standalone for engine duties. I'm not sure how it's being done, but I haven't fully researched it yet. PurelyRx8 is on Facebook and I'm rarely on there. I might post every now and then, but I don't even get on there much. Mainly it has a lot of the same questions being asked and others who go full ricer. You never go full ricer. I like my cars to have a clean look. That's how my fc was and that's how my 8 is.
|
Cheers man, appreciate the compliments.
Werd, it was Super Street Mag that did the write up like three years ago I think? I enjoyed it, but need to get back in touch with them when the FC is finished with the next round od upgrades :D We've done the REW swap into an 8. We used the Excessive LIM, and adapted the stock TB to work and then used a piggyback. As far as the car knew, it was a renni in there. However, hit the throttle and you knew it clearly wasn't  It was a hell of a project and certainly one that I wouldn't want to do again Basically, someone needs to crack the CANBUS BS and find a way to interpret all the data and send it through the CAN to an ECU to control whatever engine is in there. Once that happens, alot of the problems will go away. Way down the rd when my current renni gives it up I will not be rebuilding the renni. When that happens if someone still hasn't cracked the CAN BS, that's when I'll find someone who can. If CotyBilt can do it and make a 1998 Jeep communicate with a 2006 VW TDi with a little black box, someone, somewhere, can make the RX8 CAN work with a different ECU |
Not a problem, as I love fc's . I look forward to definitely seeing it. Keep me posted on the rx8 rew swap, I'm very interested in it. I need boost in my life again. I don't like pulling next to a car and knowing I can't beat them. ( I don't condone street racing.....it's very very bad). Anyway, I'm curious as how the gear ratio in the fd trans will be with the 8's rear gears ratio.

Well, my under pan is busted now. Thanks Mazda, for making it out of not so durable plastic. I have the LRB pan and sides ordered. I also have oil pressure, oil temp, water temp gauges and dash gauge pod ordered as well. I'll post pictures of the finished install. This winter I need to replace my clutch, any suggestions on brand and stage? I know exedy is a good choice, but any other brands? Thanks.
|
Exedy is the stock one so it is a good choice. Some on the eight club claim that they are shit and break. I can't remember if it was the stock or the plus one version. But all the stuff I remember reading was one of those oh I heard this one guy who knew guy who had problems. Now I get if they made a bad batch, but I can't imagine that they make shit product. Since they are OEM for most if not all clutches in the world.

Putting a turbo in an 8 is a complete plain in the ass because of the subframes involved.... I've built a few turbo 8's and I hated every single one of them And you don't use the FD trans, you keep the 8 trans in the 8 Quote:
CENTERFORCE SUCKS!!! |
I miss read your post, I assumed that you did it to yours, sorry. I was wondering if they were any good, I haven't heard much about centerforce clutches. Anyway. I picked up some gauges and a dash pod, I just need to get one more thing before I can install them. Also, my oem plastic under pan is busted and will be replaced with the LRB Speed pan and supports. I'm still researching about the rew swap and figuring out what all I'll need. Input is much appreciated.

A different chassis :dunno:
The way the engine sits in an 8 with the subframe makes any turbo rotary a bloody fucking cursing inspired motherfucking nightmare. Not to mention getting all the systems to work as stock is also a big big problem. Having said that, we've done it, and it's awesome , however I've got not love for the renni, so seeing it go won't be an issue for me. |
That's what I keep reading. Trying to make everything work together. I've seen that rotary works has a swap kit that includes almost everything. Has anyone used the kit and had any success?
|
You're missing the entire point.... the entire point is to the best of my knowledge, no one has developed a "kit" that includes the needed electronics and software to make EVERYTHING work the way it should.
I've got a GT, which means I have all the goodies including the DSC which works EXCEPTIONALLY well. I will not swap an engine unless I can retain all the factory goodies as they were intended. The electric power steering is easy to overcome as is the ABS. However, the dash (not being lit up like a fucking xmas tree) and the DSC are a little harder to make work. And again, to the best of my knowledge, no one has a kit to make that work. |
The spare tire is an option.
|
Update, I've installed some gauges. I'll be installing my wideband as well, as soon as I can get the vent gauge pod.

Do you have a way to tune it?
|
No, I haven't gotten a Cobb Accessport yet. It's on my list of things to get.
|
Than why bother with an afr gauge?
|
I want to already have it, when I do get to that faze. Work is slow, so progress is going slower than I'd hoped. Believe me, I'm not one to rice out their car. Everything I do has a purpose and done with taste. What I'm finding out as far as the rew swap is concerned, most people don't run ps or a/c, just to be able to have it. I don't think it's a good trade off.
|
Well, consider that I ran the dyno at a rotary shop for a number of years, get asked repeatedly to tune peoples cars, and I didn't add a wideband to my 8 because it's useless. I like spartan dashes, and all these gauges everywhere looks like horseshit to me.
I feel like running AC is a matter of mounting a compressor, pretty easy, and running PS is a matter of feeding one or two signals to the PS ecu... again, relatively simple. Making the DSC work but cutting the throttle seems like a bit of work though, and when someone figures that out..... the 8 will become a monster. |
