helmet
Best place to get one? Price? Any lowprofile ones/ I do not have much room above my head..
|
I would check out ebay. I have a bell and a shoei. They both work great, although I think the bell is just a little more comfortable. As far as lower profile ones for head clearence, I have no idea.

www.summitracing.com
www.saferacer.com I have the G-Force Pro 1, it's Snell 2005 and SFI rated. I love it, even for autocrosses. |
Honestly you really need to find somewhere to try them on if you want one that is comfortable and fits right. I spent probably an hour at the track one day trying different ones on. It's really amazing how much different they fit from brand to brand.
|
so are these the same a motorcycle helmets?
|
I bought a Zamp off jegs for around 110 bucks. Fits like a charm.
|
I don't think they're the same. Best deal I've found has been here: www.helmetcity.com
199+free shipping got my wife this ZAMP helmet |
I buy off OGRacing.
M and SA designations are different. M is concerned with impact only. SA is impact + fire resistance, something bikers don't usually have to worry about. I have the G-Force Pro 1, I think it's a great deal, but it is slightly on the heavy side. Though the lighter helmets are much more expensive. G-Force Pro 1 would work well for anyone's first helmet. I matched mine up with a tinted blue visor for $40 more. |
should I mention I will only be going in a strait line! Does that make a differance? These ZAMPS on JEGS seem cheap?? I dont mind cheap but I want one to fit nice and not look like shit. I am not sure if most drag racers (street) class wear half or full, I was thinking half...
|
No, these are NOT the same as motorcycle helmets. DOT rated helmets have nowhere near the impact resistance of Snell/SFI rated helmets.
If you're buying for drag racing, current rules require a Snell M2000 or SA2000 or better (M2005 and SA2005 are the newest) helmet. Full face is not required, but you stand a very good chance of whacking your chin/face on the steering wheel in a drag race wreck, so the full-face is a much better option. Full face is required for most HDPE/Road Course events. |
thanks guys, bought a g-force half style today for 119 local speed shop. Hope to back at the track this weekend. Trying to dial it in for import alliance in Steele may 17th.

|
Good one.^^^
|
some HPDE's won't even allow M designations, only SA, for the fire safety reasons mentioned above.
|
I use the G-Force as well. It has plenty of headroom in my non-sunroof'd RX8 and I'm 5'10. My buddy's 8 has a sunroof and he is slightly taller, but the helmet still fits well enough for auto-x... they are fairly priced.
I shop locally at www.ogracing.com |
have yall found light weight helmets??? I only have three vertibry(sp) in my neck so even a normal bike helmet hurts to the point I can only wear it for 10seconds. I MEAN REALLY PAINFUL HURT.
|
lightest weight i've found is 3 lbs
and they're expensive. |

oh damn! I thought you might have had bad disks are was forced to fuse them. The 5* off can be compensated with mirrors though, right? How LIGHT of a helmet do you think you can use?
|
Yep mirrors are a wonderful thing. My Del Sol has some nasty blind spots naturally that I have completly compensated for with the stock mirrors. I angle my side mirror to veiw down the side of the car so I can see what is on either side of me where a passenger would be if it was a four sitter. No extra mirrors thank god.
No clue yet there is a guy on your side of the country that makes the light helmets. He advertises for bikes though and my husband has talked to him about me. We hope when we visit that side of the country we can stop in and let me try them on and see if he would make me a car helmet to. So yeah expensive for me but hopefully I can finally hit the track. |
im going to my first autox. i wear glasses.
are there helmets better suited for glasses wearers? im thinking open face would be better? suggestions? |
doesn't matter to me. I'd look into contacts though, your glasses may fog up and they ask you to put the mask all the way down.
|
well contacts are not an option. ive been wearing glasses for 18 years.
thats why i was thinking open face helmets? are the all the same or is there something special i should look for? |
You can wear glasses with full face helmets, it's just tricky to get them on.
Just make sure you get an SA2005 rated helmet, those are good at most sanctioning bodies until 2015. |
I've never been asked at close my shield on my helmet anywhere, track, AutoX, etc. I even took it off my old helmet at one point just so it wouldn't get scratched up so bad at the AutoXs. And on the track I leave it open unless their is alot of debris and it starts coming in the window.
