Central Virginia Mazda Club - Lynchburg and Surrounding
So far we've collected 30+ members on an email list. There have been four official meets so far this year. Members come from Charlottesville, Richmond, Waynesboro, Roanoke, Danville.... All Mazda's welcome. No dues (yet!), no racing & hot rodding (yet!). Just some nice cruises through the mountains and some new friendships gained.
Click the link and send me a note. |
Bump the thread to show meet #5 ... shared the lot with a BIG group of Mustangs.

When was that meet? I'd join you all - but its so darn far, lol... I plan to move in the spring though and I might be relocating slightly south (near spotsylvania county) so I would only be 2-3 hours from you all instead of 3-4, lol....
|
We'll do some drives up around Charlottesville, that'll make it even better.
We drove to the Parkway the last two Sunday's for some leaf changing photo's. |
Sounds nice - we never did do our skyline drive like we wanted to, by now I'm sure most the leaves have changed or will be changed by the time I get up there!
Do you have a mileage limit on joining you guys... I think I'm something like 100+ miles from cville even. Its 76 miles to my parents in Culpeper alone! Whens the next drive though? I am getting the 8 inspected, putting winter tires on, new brake pads, lines, and rotors too so she'll be good by the end of this month... |
I may have to join in with you all as well Jon. I did Skyline Drive with my fiance about 2-3 weeks ago and it was great. Its is only about 20 minutes from me as I get on it at Thorton Gap which is like mile 32 or something like that in Sperryville.
I think the Parkway is about 2-3 hours from me. Hell, lets just go to the Dragon. I got my suspension sorted out now and Bill has a new end link so maybe he can keep up this time. |
It's about time for you guys to make it to VIR! The Charity Drive is coming up on the 14th! Some of the members will be driving down for that. Tough that it's on a Friday though.
...as for joining the club. No mileage limit at all. This past meet we had a member drive down from Straussburg! Sign up on the CVMC website and I'll keep you posted through email. ...I'm all for the Dragon trip again too! |
I actually just REDID my endlink again. Put some good 'ol locktite on it. I kept working it lose, lol.
I also have the RB front sway. Next up is to put new slotted rotors on, hawk HPS front pads, ProjectU rear pads, SS brake lines, flush brake fluid and finally throw some new tires on her (winter tires, lol). I'm looking at the NASA Winter Series right now - starts Nov 23rd I think.. if I can get all the stuff by then, I'm down for it - otherwise, I'll join up with you guys and do some spirited Skyline drives! |
Side note - I see you changed the website... not throwing Jon under the bus, but him and I are both IT Web "gurus" if it were. I'd be happy to help if you have questions or need a little work done to the site...

I would be happy to assist if needed.

The Charity Drive @ VIR was a blast as usual. A bit on the wet side, but it's always fun to drive on this track. All of you that live anywhere near Danville should put this on your calendar next year.

Nice pics! Right click... save. :) It was worth every penny (penny hell!!!) I spent to get out there especially in the rain. I've been able to practice on dry pavement quite a bit but learning to control (ok, so we were playing ;) ) a car in the rain was fun!
|
I was in long beach on business :(
Definitely will hit this up next year though! |
Starting off 2009 with Saturday, February 21st. Time and place still up for grabs, stay tuned.
|
Ah - i thought we settled on a place for some reason, hmmm...
I'm still planning on attending weather permitting. Want to test my new brakes after I install them next weekend. |

Saturday February 21st, 2009 Schedule: 10:00 am - Meet all those that want to start early at the mall (others can meet us for lunch). Usual place, parking lot adjacent to Shaker's Restaurant @ River Ridge Mall. 10:30-10:45 am- Leave for Appomattox Courthouse National Park (approx. 30 min. drive) This is on Route 24 near Appomattox, VA. Neat place for pictures and some of you history buffs may want to walk around the park. I believe the price is minimal, $3/person. 12:00 pm (flexible) - Head north on Route 24 to the geographical center of Virginia (approx. 30 min. drive). Did you see the map I added to the website? I'm intrigued by this, hope you are too. There isn't much to see really, just a way sign and an old barn/gas station. Not a big place to park either, just a couple of quick photo's. 12:30 pm - Head west/northwest to Devil's Backbone Brewing Company for a late lunch. DBBC (approx. 1 hr. drive) Despite the name, this not a sleazy bar. :) 1:30 - 3:00 pm - Lunch ... For those that don't want to drive the countryside, meet us at DBBC for lunch. 3:00 pm - After lunch you can scatter! Northern folks can head home from here obviously. Southern folks can drive over to the Blue Ridge Parkway (via Rt. 56) for a great ride home. Those tired and worn out can get back home using your quickest route. |
Great first meet!
More RCC members should attend if they can! I'll post some pics up later tonight... |

I've been meaning to recap the last few months of the clubs activities. Now that's turned into recapping the last SIX months! Sorry, too many different forums and too little time.
April was a meet @ Virginia International Raceway, always one of our favorite gatherings. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/Corral-1.jpg May had us back at the local dealership. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...MCMeet5001.jpg We finally got a hold of a HUGE Mazda flag for the club to collect signatures on. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...y/Meet8023.jpg Last month we were back @ Virginia International Raceway and got to hang out with Eric Meyer and his XOWii race team. What a great group of people that like to hang with other Mazda fans. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/w...ge-9-11-10.jpg This month is our annual trip to Deals Gap, BOTD. |

Do you guys plan on having any meets later in the summer? I'll be back from AFG in July and would be more than happy to make the trip down from Alexandria.
Also, if ya'll want to do a meet in Charlottesville I know some really nice/fun roads in/around Albemarle County (followed by a STELLAR brewery/restaurant in Afton). |
We know of those roads too and the aforementioned brewery. We've been there a few times during our meets, lol. There should be some meets coming up this summer.

I most certainly AM talking about Blue Mountain Brewery  That place is PHENOMINAL!!! It also helps that my sister is dating the manager :D
I've heard of Devils Backbone, and almost gone on a couple occasions (they stay open a bit later than Blue Mountain) but I've never gotten around to going there. Def a gorgeous area no matter which bar you hit though! Oh, and Evil 8 is good, Rockfish Wheat is better, and Dark Hollow COMPLETELY owns! lol. Hell, I had a couple bottles of the Dark Hollow mailed out to me when I was living in England, even the brits agree that that stuff is the Dogs Bollocks (fucking awesome!) :icon_tup: |
We've gone there on the way to / from meets before... only did the sampler though...
