Engine Mounted Oil Catch Tank
4 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
I'm trying to gauge interest on a potential GB for my engine mounted oil catch tank. This would be for the single turbo guys only. I need to add up the cost but I thinking it will be in the $150-$200 range depending on number of units. The capacity of the tank is 1.1 Litres. Note, I currently have 1/4" vent lines on there, but will most likely got to 3/8" or 1/2". Interest List: 1. CYD 2. John Magnuson 3. Scrubolio 4. 5. 6. 7. http://rotarycarclub.com/attachment....1&d=1226016939 http://rotarycarclub.com/attachment....1&d=1226016939 http://rotarycarclub.com/attachment....1&d=1226016939 http://rotarycarclub.com/attachment....1&d=1226016939 |

More pictures of current setup with everything installed.

I'm still on stock twins, but nice work.
I have a friend running a single who runs a tank for a 2 cycle oil source with his OMP. Seems like he's had issues with finding a suitable tank and location. Wondering out-loud if this could/would be option. |
Yeah I can make it into a pre-mix tank, actually I was thinking of that as well earlier today.
I can make something special for him to maximize capacity as well, it will just be a bitch to install. |

Beautiful piece man. Why won't this work with the stock twins?

Already covered, I did the same with my setup. You just need to drill and tap the metal carrier bracket above the power steering pump tank.

That's an easy fix!
So when can we see a larger capacity version with an oil cap for a 2-stroke tank? Ready to write a check :icon_tup: |

Oooh two stroke reservoir. That sounds good. How do you see the oil level and how do you drain it?
|
Sight line and ball valve at the bottom of the tank with a outlet line that long enough to go past the power plan frame. See photos on first page.

Is that it for interest?

You can add me....
BTW---I'll PM you the pics you requested later tonight. |

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I couldn't find an attachment option to PM the pics. I've attached them below---perhaps you can have a mod delete this post after you've saved the pics so it doesn't clutter up your thread. If you have questions about some of the measurements or need additional info/pics, PM me your e-mail address.

Hmm, same header setup as me.
Okay thanks for the pictures, one question though are you planning on running power steering or are you eliminating that whole section? Your relocating the coils right? If you are I think I have an idea to make an all in one catch/premix tank. Interest List: 1. CYD 2. John Magnuson 3. Scrubolio 4. Trout2 5. GoRacer 6. RotaryWhat? 7. |

Okay, I can make a steel braided line with a bando fitting on one end. -4AN fittings? Would you be interested in that?
No A/C pump? |

I think a brass barb on the bottom of your tank will be sufficient to feed the OMP adapter. And no A/C.... |
Alright guys I will be creating an offical GB thread soon. Once I get an answer from all of you on prefered timing I will set a deposit and delivery deadlines.

Also, I don't have the rats nest, AC, or PS...so whatever needs to happen to support the lack of those...

Do you still have the coil/rats nest mounting frame in place? If you do, nothing.

After running 5 autox days and getting about halfway through a track day, the catch can was about 3/4 full. Much less oil loss than before the vents and can were added. Emptying it is a piece of cake: jack the car up high enough to reach the hose coming through the undertray, put a bottle under it and open the petcock. Or just drive it up ramps. I drive it up on my trailer ramps to empty it. |

I was kind of thinking about making something like this that would hold 2 stroke oil for my rotary aviation 2 stroke oil adapter plate. I could care less where i put a catch can but that 2 stroke oil container has to be 6 inches above the adapter and there just isnt much room in our engine bays. Perhaps an integrated unit would be cool.
|
I was thinking of something along those lines, but the compromise would be available volume for both the premix and oil catch. Put yourself on the list and sent a deposit if you want one of the premix tanks.
|
OK, I will ask. What is the purpose?
|
do you have any pictures of the premix tank? Thanks!!

This is by far the best solution I've seen yet, and was dreading the thought of finding a good spot to mount one of the off-the-shelf tanks. I'm sure if this was posted on some of the other forums, there would be a lot more interest. This site doesn't seem to have the traffic----yet. |
When you get a real prototype i would recommend bringing it up to howard coleman. He will likely purchase one and people have a strong tendency to follow his lead. I hear he is going to possibly be running a rotary aviation adapter some time in the future. I am totally interested.
