20B engine for sale, Alabama
I'm selling this 20B engine that came out of my JC Cosmo when it was restored. The owner before me put everything new under the hood. This is a low mileage engine that ran until they took it out for the new one. If you are interested let me know. I'll entertain reasonable offers. I also have the stock computer from the cosmo that I'll include if the price is right.
Thanks, Dan http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...4/DSC_0133.jpg |
I so wish I could get this....GLWS

do you have a rough price in mind? also even MORE important, do you have the counterweight for it?
|
Also interested in a price. Did you get compression numbers by chance before it was pulled? How long since it has been running/pulled from the car? Thanks.

so for 3500 it comes with the manifolds and related then?
a counterweight looks like this http://www.torukumotorsports.com/ima...rweight_th.jpg |

Where would I find what series it is? |
From looking at the pics its an early series engine. will be a great NA application. 3500.00 is a bit much, for an early series motor, but gl with the sale.
|
where 13b is cast on the rotor housings look at the number/letters stamped right below that. then post

Also, I had emailed the previous owner about the condition of the engine. Here is an excerpt of what he said: With regard to the engine...I don't recall the mileage, but the only reason to keep the motor is because it was the original motor in the car. And if you were ever going to restore it to original, original, original, then you would need to rebuild it and reinstall it. Anyone who knows anything about Cosmos will know that a 1990 would have a three digit numbers only motor xxx, perhaps a late 90 would have a Axxx series motor, but that might be pushing it. The original motor lasted so long because it was a diplomat's car, driven in the U.S. and was never abused. So given those facts, you will have to decide if keeping the motor with the car has some future value - not to you necessarily, but to a future owner or collector. I haven't checked lately, but the supply must be getting low, which means the prices may have gone up. I will take offers on the engine. Dan |

if it has the counterweight for that engine i might be tempted to work something out in the next couple weeks. But without the counterweight you really cant use it since there will be no way to attach a flywheel or anything.

As the engine is "503" with no letter, it is an original run engine and as such, is the least desirable of them all due to problems Mazda had with these engines failing. The problem is with the irons and these were redesigned in the B series and greater engines. FYI - I have C339 which makes me happy. From the "other" forum:
I do not know the total numbers of "runs" that were made but it goes like this: the first run went from 001 to 999 then the next run was A 001 to A 999 there may have been more than 1000 per run but this is what I have seen. next came: B 001 to B 999 then last was: C 001 to C 999 (actually D was the last series) the differences between the run numbers are strength. the first 2000 motors were the first run and are the ones that mazda had the problems with, and had changed lots out on warranty to the newer motors at great expense. I was told that the first run motors have a short life and its not a matter if they will fail, rather when, especially under higher boost levels (anything over 12psi) the strengthened housings of te 2nd run (B toC) make the motor much more reliable and hold higher boost. |
I thought it started from C series not B (stronger engine).. But its been awhile. I have a number and a "D" series engine.
Also to add, There are few "E" series. Some say this was the last series Mazda made and used mainly as a replacement engines for Eunos Cosmos. I have seen only one photo of E series engine. |
I'm learning a lot!
