In Need Of A New Clutch
Due to my newly found power, I'm in need of a new clutch. The one I have now is an RPS street clutch (5k miles). I need one that will hold at least 350 RWT, preferably 400 RWT to anticipate for future upgrade :suspect: Any suggestions?

Don,
I guess you could go with many different set ups.. I wouldnt recommend ACT SS. They say its rated around 400.. But I don't think so.. I think people had better luck with ACT pressure plate and 6 puck plate.. Or SPEC.. but some had some issues with their stage 3. I'm about to try one of Exedy clutch. I'll let you know how that goes... Also, I have a ACT MZ-011 - Heavy Duty Pressure Plate. Its used and needs a new clutch plate.. I'll sell you the Pressure plate by itself for 175.. This way you could just get a new 6 puck for like 125.. and have a kit for 300 :) |
The ACT 6 puck has been proven for a cheap clutch. I think my pricing for you is around $560.00 for a brand new one. I had a local guy make damn near 100 passes on that clutch and it was used when we installed. The car was trapping between 95-100mph in the 1/8th mile the whole time. Strong clutch for the money.

What about pedal feel? Harsh engagement? I would probably want a sprung disc. Let me know the cost for sprung 6 puck kit.

Ill see what I can do for you :)

6 puck(ACT) sprung or unsprung is fine. Best bang for da buck.. I have ran the ACT street kit, SPEC 3+ and now ACT 6 unsprung. The street kit was great for under 350hp. I ran the crap out of it 100+ passes at the track. The SPEC 3+ = complete SHIT!!! ACT 6 puck has been great but I think I will be seeing its limits sson enough...
|
+1 on the ACT SS kit. it's good til about 350hp. I cooked mine 4-5 times launching and all it did was slip like crazy till it cooled off and then was fine afterwards.
I bought a regular Spec 3 just because I liked the one I had in my old car, so far it feels good, but I haven't done much with it. It does let out high, which I like, and it is grabby which can be a pain in traffic. The clutch pedal is alot softer than the ACT was. |

I should know something tomorrow for you.

$500.00 plus shipping and around 2.5% cc fee with heavy duty pressure plate
$520.00 Plus shipping and around 2.5% cc fee with the extreme pressure plate. |
that looks like a great deal Don. either plate will be fine
|
What would be the total with shipping? Is there any other form of payment I could use to avoid the additional fee?
Hmmm, I think I need to research a little more... |
Looking myself , was hoping to hear some things about the Exedy Twin Plate Clutch ... anyone ??
|
I think turbosquirrel here on the forums is running that clutch. Good solid clutch, probably not necessary unless you are shooting for 500+rwhp.

I've been talking to a few people about my setup, Howard Coleman has been my go to guy. I'm shooting for 550rwhp, some street driving and a few track days a year.

All I can say is the ACT 6 puck unsprung is very easy to drive. I can not understand why anyone would complain. For the $500 price, you can not beat it. Mine feels better than the SPEC stage 1 I had in my 911.
|
Exedy Twin Disc. From experience a ACT extreme 3 was being destroyed by my car. I upgraded to the exedy twin disc and I could not be happier. It grabs VERY WELL (I have the rear ends to prove it) and is easier to drive in traffic than the ACT.
|
Im going to agree with Zonblitz on that one, ACT is a good clutch, but the exedy is a favorite among people who have used both. I drive my FD on the ACT 6puck (currently installed) and then a friend bought the Exedy twin and i would rather drive with that any day.
Check out the 2 pages of clutches we have to get a better idea of what you are looking for. There are a lot of specs in there for you to look over too. if there is any further information you need let me know and i can get it for you. I can also work on pricing for you, i give discounts to all RCC members so please if you would like to buy a clutch do not order through the site, PM me first. http://www.superiorhp.com/catalog/in...Path=4257_4313 |
So the ACT is $500 what does the Excedy run 1k +? I am sure the Excedy has a better feel and I am sure there are many more that even beat the Excedy but we are talking about the BEST clutch for the price.
|
i just bought my exedy. when i get it in i will let you know. not pushin those numbers though so im not sure if my opion would even matter ha.
|
Don, are you still looking for a clutch?? I just found out, my ACT spare clutch I have is infact a 6 puck.. If you want it, you could have it for $325 with pressure plate and 6 puck. Its used but in decent shape!
|
Thanks Phil, but I've already ordered a brand new one, besides I think it's best to have a part like a clutch to come with a warranty.
