DGRR here i come!!!

This will be my first DGRR event and man I am PUMPED up and getting ready.
Even though I will be attending the event without my FD:driving::( i think it should be a blast of a time!!!
I will be Shooting the entire event from start to finish in Still and video with the help of Phil, Who has offered to put me up for the duration of the event.

A couple of questions comes to mind, i hope you local guys can help and answer them for me.

How far is the event location from the Birmingham airport???
What kinda weather can I expect???
Are there mosquito issues this time of the year???
How cold does it get at night???
Any good Korean restaurants close by????

In any case, i hope to meet lots of new people and have a blast taking pictures of this years DGRR event!!!!!!!!! YEAHHHH see you all there.

OK ... 4 hours or so from Birmingham ... Cool nights (50's) , beautiful temps in the day (70's)-(like last year hopefully) ... NO mosquitos that time of year ... NO Korean restaurants anywhere near Nantahala Village or Deals' Gap , but if you're willing to drive an hour each way , I believe there is a bigger City close by ??

lt1_fd3s 03-10-2009 09:02 PM

Michael, if you ask nicely and I have my rotary FD running, I'll let you borrow it for a pass or two on the Dragon.

Tray & Kenny, wow!!! thanks I'll look forward to the opportunity. I'm still trying to work out my final plans with Phil on which day to fly in to the event but, I'll be sure to ask for plenty of ride-a-longs with the people there. cheers

Might be able to fit you into my 20B for a ride or two:)

Herblenny 03-11-2009 02:57 PM

COOL!!!

It would be good to see you again.. And I'll be heading to SD quite often as my brother now lives there.

You could use my D90 and various camera mounts and mini-DV cameras I have. I think I have 4 external/interior suction car mounts and 3 mini-DV cameras (and ton of tape). I'll also bring my macbook pro and 1TG firewire 800 external HD :) So, I could get a copy of what you take :)

Can't wait!!!! This year is going to be a blast!!!

And David, I would like to get a ride in your 20B FD :)

Herblenny------- get in line man and take a #!!!!! :)
Your equipment plus mine, we should be able to have live feed to NASA by the time we hook everything up LOL

FDSeoul 03-11-2009 11:23 PM

what is the closest airport from the event location and what is the distance and time??? thanks

speedjunkie 03-12-2009 06:16 AM

FDSeoul- When I read the first part about you going to DGRR I thought "he's gonna drive all the way there?!!) LOL I'm thinking about making the trip from CO just to joust with the dragon again. You'll have a GREAT time, even if you're not driving your FD.

Janna told me about last year when she was riding with you and you hit the guardrail, OUCH! She's somewhat the bad luck charm huh? LOL Better luck this year. Your car is gorgeous btw, I picked up that issue of Modified. NASTY!

Have fun guys! I wish I could make it this year!

Tyson McGhee (Knoxville) is about an hour and a half away from the event. That's the closest on this side. The Asheville airport is probably a little closer.

Also, you're not going to find any good Korean restaurants anywhere near DGRR on the TN side.

lt1_fd3s 03-12-2009 06:42 AM

Asheville airport is closer, but it will cost a little more to fly into there. I typically fly out of Charlotte (2 hours from Asheville) and save $100+. (yeah, i can be a cheap a$$!)

As I told you, if you fly into Charlotte (or Asheville), let me know and I can pick you up. (If Charlotte, hopefully you can land before 1 pm on Friday...)

and speedjunkie, there is a guy driving in from San Francisco, CA...

War Eagle 03-12-2009 08:22 AM

Hook me up with some good pics and I might even let you drive!

3DZukini 03-12-2009 09:55 AM

I'll take some pics for ya, but I just want a ride, I'd be too nervous driving someone else's car with that kind of power! :)

Very cool!!! Glad you can make it. It will be a blast!

FDSeoul 03-12-2009 03:33 PM

thanks guys for all your responses and offers.
@ this point i am looking at several options to getting to the event. Phil has made several possible options and idea which sound very tempting. hopefully i will be able to finalize things in the next few weeks.
I look forward to meeting all you Rotary crack heads soon:)

Ugh, it's getting so crowded up there. :(

FDSeoul 03-24-2009 03:44 PM

from the event pictures of DGRR most of the roads have no shoulders or pull off areas?? or do they???

Proxy One 03-24-2009 04:46 PM

There are probably 4 or 5 different spots to pull off and take pictures of cars on the road.

FDSeoul 03-24-2009 05:16 PM

nice to hear that there are designated areas for pit!!!

lt1_fd3s 03-24-2009 05:49 PM

Seoul, if you haven't already, check out killboy.com (and i can't remember the other site...) all he does is sit in pull offs and take pictures for people and then sells them
