Florida Caravan!!!

Well, it's never too early to start planning on a caravan from FL to DGRRX! How about it, anyone interested?:driving:

Last year I travelled up with Savannah Dan and Garrett from Daytona Beach and had a great time. We left Thursday morning and came back on Sunday. It's just a nicer and more fun way to go up to DGRR, kind of like your own rotary run. Plus, you have back up there if something happens. Not that our cars ever break down, right?

So, I'd like to do the same thing this year, only larger. Anyone interested? I was thinking the Orlando crowd might be join in as well as anyone from Gainesville and Miami.

We'll run up I-95 and take I-26 across to Asheville NC and cut over I-40 to DGRRX.

What do you think?

War Eagle 11-23-2009 02:20 PM

Bump for FL exposure. Come on FL let's do this thing!

khronus79 12-07-2009 12:20 AM

as far as I know bewtwo will be going and hopefully bringing his 20b 3rd gen, I'll be attending also, do you know if Dan is coming????

As far as the route you guys are taking, how's the drive???

Last time I went via the FL turnpike to I75 to I285, and I have to say that once you pass Atlanta the drive is great, spectacular views, great little towns and very relaxed driving, part of the DGRR experience was getting there and the route we took made the whole trip that much better.

Yes, saw that bewtew is going. Don't know if Dan is in yet as he hasn't signed up yet. I think a large group will come from Orlando including Jesus Padilla from Kilo Racing.

The route I am proposing is to go up I95N to I26W in SC and to cut across I26 into NC and then to I40W to Nantahala. The ride is all highway and is very easy. Once past Columbia, the view is great. I have a home in Asheville NC and I have gone both ways (I75 versus I95) and the I95 route is by far the easiest way to get there. Last year, we also picked up a couple of people from VA going this way.

My goal is to get a dozen or so cars signed up for the caravan so it is like our own mini DGRR.

khronus79 12-08-2009 01:34 AM

sounds good, I heard the rumor about Jesus, hopefully he brings that immaculate Turbo II.
I haven't heard of anyone else from the local crew wanting to make the trip, but then again I haven't been to the meets in a while.
I guess I'll be rolling with you guys, so sign me up.

Yes, his TII is really nice and I think this is the one he was going to drive up but he owns a 1/2 dozen or so really nice RX7s so it might be another one.

I'll start a list! 2010 DGRRX FL Caravan members:

1) Khronus - Orlando
2) War Eagle - Jacksonville

khronus79 12-15-2009 01:17 AM

Hey man, what day is the caravan planned to take off??? Same as last year??

maybe we could alter the route but it is such a pain going thru Atlanta. Let me check into this though.

Most guys drive their cars on up. This is what we did last year and will most likely do again this year. It's just more fun plus it looks like my mechanic (Jesus Padilla) is going in the caravan so if the car breaks down, that's even better than having AAA:)

You are though welcome to trailer the car and we'd love to have you join along.

Pourman 01-10-2010 08:19 PM

I am also planning to attend with Dale from the Panhandle area , and hopefully some of the others here will go too :) ... we go to Birmingham to meet up with the NOLA / Mississippi group , and the Alabama guys ... met up with Phil and crew , and Caravan-ed to DGRR , was a great drive !!

I'll might be doing this, I have 4 guests coming with me and we won't fit in the rx8.

Is it possible your group could meet us in Birmingham or along the way TO Birmingham ?? ... the more the merrier , and I've driven the route you are speaking of , and honestly , the route we take out of B'Ham is a much nicer drive ;) ... just saying :)

Herblenny 01-11-2010 03:37 PM

FL group David is talking about will not come near Bham.
If they want to meet up with us, that's 140 miles to Bham and then additional 80+ miles for them.
Only way we might be able to meet up would be to meet up in ATL. But I think that would add about 60+ mile longer journey for us.. Best would be to either meet off of I-75 past Chattanooga or somewhere near the NVNC....

Yes, Phil is right. Our best bet is to go up I95 and across I26 to I40 west. Seems like those that want to go up I75 have other persons to hook up with so it look like we're all covered.

papsmagu 01-23-2010 06:52 PM

there is about 5 of us comming up from miami. i cannot leave until Friday morning so it looks like i will miss this caravan.......i will caravan back on sunday with you guys!

You need to link up with us then. I'm in Jax and it would be on your way. I'll see Jesus Padilla (Kilo Racing) this weekend and I'll attempt to figure out who is coming from Orlando.

The plan is for you guys to leave Orlando early Thursday morning, link up with with others in Daytona and then with us in Jax. I think some Miami guys might be joining too so it should be fun.

I'll post more up soon.

SPiN Racing 03-02-2010 12:23 AM

Hey Hey

I will be towing the 1st gen on the trailer again this year behind the Dually.

I was gonna have my oldest (16) follow in the 91.... get some long term seat time.. but the wife nixed that. Either way he didnt get his license till about a month PAST DGRR... so he cant get his full license till then.

At this point I will be towing from St. Pete up 75. Plan was to do the Atlanta route.
The dually will pull a house to about 65 or 70.. but go 75 and the gearing causes MPG to drop to the sub 10 range. Down from 20MPG.

Im gonna have us on the road around 6 AM... 7 at the latest.

I will subscribe to this thread to keep an eye on things.

Scott

War Eagle 03-02-2010 06:24 AM

Don't haul that thing thru Atlanta as it is always a mess going thru there.

Good news - Jesus Padilla and Jesus Jr. from Kilo Racing in Orlando are joining in the trip this year.

As I hear from more people in FL, we'll figure out the details on this.
