Mazdaspeed hoods - How many of you are interested??
I'm trying to get an idea to see how many of you are interested in vented Mazdaspeed hood??
Cost will be around $550 - 600 for FG and $750 - 800 for Carbon.. PLUS shipping (usually 150-175). Let me know how many of you are interested. I'm trying to get someone to start producing these and I already found a hood I could use to make a mold of. |

I am in.......you know that for sure
I might be in Phil. Depends on timing but for that price.... AWESOME!
Best looking hood outside of stock IMO. The only one (other than stock) that would ever go on my car, but college tuition for my daughter comes first.
^ What he said, depends on timing but I'm interested.
I'd be interested in one for $500ish.
that mazdaspeed hood is very tasteful. I'm intrested if fitment is on point
Any updates to this?
Damn I've always loved this hood. Maybe I can sell my current Scoot hood to my roommate and get this one haha.
Phil, I would be in on this, let me know.
Well, I'm still trying to get an answer from the fabricator.. I'll keep you guys updated.
Another possibility is getting the R-spec hood replicated. Only issue is that one I found is about $5,000 (6,000 shipped from Japan). If I make that one, I would definitely need firm commitment with deposit (will be about $200 more to offset my investment to buying this R-spec hood). Let me know if you guys are interested in the R-spec. http://www.poweraxel.com/archvs/mazd.../image/1-2.jpg |
Holy shit I like the R-Spec even more. I've never seen that one.
I like the r spec alot as well. Idk if I like it enough to shell out 200 more. better pictures of it would be a plus.
I'm liking the Mazdaspeed hood more. THe vent seems a little farther forward for those of us doing a VMIC it makes it alot easier to duct the hood to the intercooler, or get it close enough for government work.
Hey Phil here's a question for you. If you are having these made, can you order them withOUT the holes for the wiper nozzles? I hate that look. |

That sounds like a great Idea! I would like it if they marked out on the bottom of the hood where to drill out so if we changed our mind. |
I'm sure that's not a problem.. But as of now, my guy is bit busy with other project/job. I'm hoping to meet up with him tomorrow and see what he can do and get a reasonable time line. Also, since the weather has gotten kind of bad and not sure if his work shop has controlled environment or not. I'll let you guys know... I also want this to go ASAP.
So, how many are interested in R-Spec?? and willing to pay 700-800 each for FG and 1000+ for CF ?? Just remember new R-spec is like 4-5K in Japan and they are SUPER rare! If we decide to make it, I'm wanting to make a limited number so its not played out. I'm thinking 25-35 total. |
:cringes: I'd go for it but my vote is MS hood for a few reasons
1) I like the position of the duct better 2) Looks smoother 3) Not sure on the functionality of the side vents on the RSpec 4) It's MazdaSpeed! 5) Becuase I said so ;) Still a better looking hood than most out there though |
I am after the MS hood. Would like the vents above the turbos as well on the hood ....in CF Looking for good fitment not looking to use pins want to keep my hood latch......(R spec not so good)
I'd be in for an R-spec hood.

In for the R-Spec unit for sure!
A little more aggressive opening on the center vent would be awesome. Or I will mod mine after I get it to accommodate my v-mount. Will be rocking my modded aluminum hood until then. |
I'm still trying to talk to my fabricator.. He's been busy with his other job. I'll see what he says.
Regarding R-spec.. Maybe I should start a poll and see what you guys prefer. R-spec, I would definitely need a non refundable deposit as I would have to fork out to buy the R-spec hood to be replicated. |
I think the poll is really going to be the only way to be certain. No new accounts though damnit :suspect:
poll is up.
For us slow folk....where is the pole

Just so know I will vote early and often

OK, As of now I have one MS hood that I could borrow to make this hood and I'm also in works to get one from SF, CA so I don't have to worry about if something happens to the one that I'll borrow.
This project is definitely a go, just matter of my fabricator having free time. I'll keep you updated... PS. I was contacted by a fellow DGRR attendee who's also interested in making mold and the hood.. So, there are others interested in making this hood. Please be patient as I have DGRR to organize and my cars to build. |
Alright Phil! I saw those pictures of the hood. :o16:
I like where this poll is going :D
Did you get the hood yet. Almost went and got it myself

Heath,
Funny you mentioned that.. i just found out about that and picked up some documents about fixing that problem. Far as hood GB.. At this point, my fabricator has said OK on the project and will be picking up another hood from someone else on the forum. He came by to look at my hood and he preferred one that's painted vs. CF. But he definitely told me that the hood WILL BE produced.. It will take about a month to make the mold of the hood and another couple of weeks to make one and test fit. I will keep you guys updated.. Mean while, please post if you are interested in CF or FG. |
I too would be interested in a CF Mazdaspeed hood. I will have to see what funds are like when you have them made tho. Cash is a bit tight for me right now, but I am interested!!
fiberglass for me
hey phil, i have an off question, would you know what your fabricator is planning as far as having the finished product raw FG/CF or primered/painted?
Ive always liked that hood however never cared for the 'fin' down the middle, i know why its there but i would prefer it to be raw so i can further modify it without taking off an preexisting finish. shipping to canada would be the deal breaker but at the prices youve mentioned i would also be in so far for a FG one. |
