bbk for the rex
 

hey guys, i'm ready to buy a bbk for the rex and i have looked at a couple different types. so far i am thinking about rotora's because they offer a nice front and rear set.

what are your opinions on rotora?

i also have a question about any way to install an e-brake because i know you will loose the stock e-brake when replacing the rear caliper.

has anyone done this?

hey max, yeah it is an fd and why do you suggest stoptech? i know it is also a popular brand but do they have a rear set and why would you choose them over rotora?

From what I've heard, Rotora is a cheap Chinese knock-off that only looks good. I don't have any experience with it, that's just what I've heard.

I know Howard Coleman had been talking to Racing Brake about making brakes specifically for the FD. They've had some on the market for the past couple years. That's what I'm getting when I get mine. I think they have a big rotor for the back but I don't remember if they have a bigger caliper available.

hey speedjunkie, yeah i know rishie sells racing brake set ups and i read howards write up about how well he liked there products. however, they do not offer a larger caliper for the rear and uses the stock rear caliper.

call me weird, but if i have aftermarkets on the front i just want the rears to match. i thought about picking up a set of rz brakes and send the rotor's to Garfinkle and have him fix em up like he did phil's but i'm really not sure which route i want to go.

i have never really heard of any bad stuff about rotora though.

^Weird. I always wanted my front and rears to match too HAHA. Although I've kinda given up on that. I'll be happy if they're at least close in size, but most importantly, I'll be VERY happy if they function really, really well.

hey speed, believe me...........i don't want to just throw 5k down the drain on pretty calipers. the only reason i am changing the brake sys. is for function.......i'm trying to build the car for 400-450 bwhp and i want something quality but i like matching parts just as much as the next guy.

Wait, so you want the brake kit to stop you better than a well functioning stock system (provided proper pads and DOT 4 brake fluid is used on track) YET... you want the "front and rears to match" ...but then you say do don't want to spend $$$ on pretty brake calipers.

So what is it? Form or function? It sounds like you just secretly want some big azz cool looking mad tyte jdm brakes, yet are too embarrassed to admit it, so you go for the "I got a high HP car so I need big brakes" excuse. You DO know, that most big brake kits do NOT reduce stopping distance itself, but rather are bigger in order to prevent overheating of the components and brake fade? Grippier tires are what really stop a car, and until you have issues with not being able to lock up the tires from excessive grip, you do not really need bigger brakes... Given that your car may or may not ever really see HPDE days, and possibly never see a wheel to wheel race in which brake fade is a big issue, I am going to say this:

Go buy Hawk HP+ pads for your car, get new solid rotors, and some Motul DOT4 fluid, flush your shit, bleed it, break it in and you're good to go.

damn maxx..........tell me how you really feel. i do eventually want to take this car to some track days. it will mostly be driven on the street though. i'm guessing you are jumping on me because you like ragging on someone asking question that looks like a newb. i'm sorry i am not the all knowing great racer like you, but this is my second rx7 and i am still learning new shit every day.........mostly from these forums i am a member of. i have spent quite a bit of change on the car already and wish to continue to put quality parts on the car. if you will read my above post, it says i want both functionality and looks. i take pride in my toys like most of the other people i know that choose to purchase things they like.

thanks for your opinion though, but if you can't stay on topic of my thread asking about big brake kits and which ones you have experience with.........please quit shitting on my thread.

You know how.. jealous that you've got an FD and enough to consider a BBK as reasonable equipment in the first place. :D ...but what I said earlier still holds true. I like your maturity in replying to that, by the way, Good luck with the brake search!

hey guys thanks for your opinions, i have purchased the racing brake kit from Rishie and hopefully it is going to be as nice as everyone says.

in the long run i had to go against what i wanted in looks because i have to maintain the oe rear caliper. i will just rip it off and have it powder coated black and silver to match.

hey speed i will do, but you will have to wait for quite a while. i won't be back in the states until october. i'm trying to twist my old mans arm and see if he will get it all put together for me, he is retired and doesn't have anything to do.
