Question - Jspec Power Steering Pump

I am wondering if I can cap this top bango bolt hole on this unit? If so, would anyone know the size/pitch of the bolt needed? Sorry for the silly questions, I'm just a newbie.

Are you trying to run an S5 p-steer pump on an S4?

LunchboxCritter 03-31-2010 11:39 AM

I'm putting an S5 J-spec TII in a S5 USDM NA, my NA setup did not have this or the plumbing for it. It has the line that bolts to that actual pump, but not the "booster?" that is on top of this setup.

Ahh, so was your car originally manual steering? Or a de-powered rack? If it was de-powered, how many ports are in the rack?

I believe that it has always had power steering. Here is the old pump that I removed from the NA engine.

And here is the pump on the jspec engine.

The old pump is without that silver ("booster?"), also the silver thing on top has a 6 wire plug coming from it. I do not seem to have the mating plug anywhere within reach.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

(put the original pump on the J-spec motor has occured to me, I was just hoping to get a break, and be able to cap that banjo hole on the one that is currently installed.)

Okay, I just ended up swapping out my old stuff with the jspec stuff. Just trying to keep it simple as possible.

I would assume it will work fine, I just switched my back to NA last night. I'm currently awaiting my oil catch can from Jegs, before I put the UIM back on and fire her up. I'll let you know as soon as I know for sure.

Gregory Casimir 04-01-2010 11:00 PM

okay cool. BTW how much did you get your catch can for?

LunchboxCritter 04-02-2010 08:10 AM

I ordered a jaz 1/4" fitting oil catch with breather (air filter) from jegs. I'm still waiting on it to arrive. It was around $83.00 shipped. There are some cheaper ones on ebay, but most do not have air breathers on them. (I ordered mine from jegs on ebay, it was cheaper than jegs.com)

There are different types of power steering, the complicated one is vehicle speed sensing.

The simple one is engine speed sensing.

Being that with a mech pump, you need to overcome the effects of increased assist at high speed, and add aditional assist at low speed.

I run my car with the simple system, no power steering ecu or connectors hooked up... works fine.
