RX8 Front cover mod for 13B and 13BT
I was talking to Higgi about my issues with the pulley boss and how I needed to remove the front cover to make sure the needle bearings were seated right before torquing the new pulley boss. Long-story short I needed a new gasket and he mentioned that the RX8 gasket was a better choice but it needed to be modified. Very easy.
Have to cut the sections that don't line up without damaging the crush ring (hotlinking pics isn't working anymore) http://www.rotaryheads.com/modificat...ontcover_3.jpg The info came from this site: http://www.rotaryheads.com/modificat...asket_mod.html 1. the RX8 gasket is metal vs. the paper ones for the FC 2. The FC front cover gasket is $25 + $4.75 for the Water pump housing-to-block gasket vs. $16 for the RX8 gasket W/ waterpump gasket. 3. It should help with the common leaky front cover. I'll post pics of it if you want but it's self-explanatory, plus the pics from the site in the site are clear enough End results: http://www.rotaryheads.com/modificat...ontcover_6.jpg You can find the gaskets from Atkins: http://atkinsrotary.com/store/catalo...p-1-c-800.html Note that this also works for the REW. |
Nice, I learn something new every day. Going gasket less is an even cheaper and just as effective option, with little modification. I like the fact that the 8 gasket is made of steel. Is it a design similar to head gaskets?? like thin multi layer and coated gaskets?

HA! Cool. I'll have to remember this.

13B-RE front cover gaskets are metal and require no modifications ;)
N390-10-502 They're not like head gaskets. They're stamped with a raised area in the center. They are also reuseable if you're careful. |
Good stuff. Subscribed.

I notice that it goes across the pesky o-ring area.
Does the gasket take the place of the oring there? Or does it just take the place of the oring "holder" and still requires the oring to be installed? |
