Guess it's time for a build thread.
Okay! Enough plaguing the lounge with my FC stuffs. Now I'll make a build thread.
Background: I bought these two FC's for a decent price. Guy said both had blown coolant seals, and one had a recent rebuild. Maroon car has OEM sport duckbill, Finishline fogs, (ones busted) aluminum hood, and an auto trans. Gold car is pretty basic. Both have rear seats and the optional high class radio with all the different options and 9 band EQ. I got to work seeing how bad off the cars were, and preparing to buy a new motor. I check the gold car, won't crank. Put a socket on the main pulley, won't budge. Pull the spark plugs, rusty. Drain the oil, about a quart, the rest was orange water. Shit. I check the maroon car. Spark plugs look slightly used. Check the oil, it's pretty clean. Try to crank the car, motor spins freely. Puts out three strong puffs for each rotor. Drain the oil, old oil and atf. Yes! Check the water neck, no thermostat. YES! So I got to work, pulling the old, seized 13B out of the gold car. Everythings moving along fine, til I crawl underneath. Trans drain plug and fill plug, both, are gone. Slave cylinder is frozen. Shit! Oh well. Next step: Remove the good motor out of the maroon car and diagnose all my problems. Pics up shortly. |

The locked up motor ready to be pulled. 180k original miles.

win for you
|
Haha. I'm busting my ass off. If I would have worked a little harder this engine would be out. It's literally just sitting in there now.
Tomorrow I'll get the other motor ready to pull, and maybe get the junk one out. I have to use a chain hoist on a tree limb because I have no garage or smooth surface to put a cherrypicker on. |
Sad news....
I haven't been able to work on the cars due to horrid weather. But when I drained the oil out of the cars, both have floor rot. Gold car has very little. A line about the size of a pencil, length and width, on the driver floorboard. Red car is useless. Front frame rails rusted in half, seat brackets rusted off, horrible. It's basically nothing but a parts car, and I'd never sell it as anything but. Luckily it still has a ton of good parts. |
Rust is a killer, it usually is the means that claims my cars. I have no patience for body work, so once rusty, always rusty (until complete death by rust separates us).
POR 15 that rust right away, it might last a while yet. |
I'm definitely taking care of the rust on the gold one.
The poor maroon car is a goner. |
thats a rare color purplish car
|
Yeah, I've not seen many of them. I want to fix it up, but with the frame rail being rusted COMPLETELY out, I'm not sure it's even worth it.
Whats your guys opinion on that? |
scrap it, rockers, floors, quarters, all repairable if you have the skill or time or patience etc, but that is just not worth it.
|
Really aside for the floor, drivers door, and frame rail, the rest of the car is pretty clean. Not a lot of dents or dings, no other rust, no shady bodywork.
|
I'm really debating parting the maroon car out to fund the build on the gold one.
I just DREAD shipping parts. Absolutely dread it. |
If you had sex for parts, you wouldn't dread it as much man!
|
I'm pretty sure I can pull that off for cheaper parts.
Some good, and some bad news though. The old man tossed the radiator from the gold car onto my good interior pieces. Busted a mint radio surround, center vent, defog vents, and demister vents. Good news, I had a spare S5 seat, in mint shape, thought it was a passenger side. My driver seat has some sort of rigged mount and is bolted straight to the floor. I decided to put the seat in my car, and surprise! Its a mint driver side S5 black seat. I've sourced a mint passenger seat, and radio surround and won't be breaking the bank. Also the maroon car has an aluminum undertray. Thought that was nifty. |
