Fusible Link Identification?
My little brother's '83 has a battery draw that I am having trouble narrowing down. The only way I was able to get the draw to go away was to pull the middle wire on the fusible link on the left strut tower. I pulled all of the fuses under the dash, but the draw never dropped. I think on the schematics, they call that fusible link the x-107. Anybody know what that fusible link is used for?

Middle one is labeled as "Main" on the box, right? Well, everything draws thru it except the headlights and headlight motors.
I'd suspect the draw is alt related. Try unhooking the power wire running from the FL box to the alt, and see if that cures the power drain. If so, it's inside the alt, most likely regulator. |
Thanks man. I will try that out and report back.

Had my brother test that theory. Draw drops from .230A to .017. Thanks so much man. We have another alternator from their parts car that he is going to try.

NP.
BTW, here's a top tip for ya. Replace those flismy, easy to break wire-type fuse links with the newer plug-in style like the 2nd & 3rd gen use. Turns out, they are a direct fit. It's almost like they were made to fit the factory box..... I use 2 @ 30a for the outer, and 1 @ 50a for the center. Some say a 60a is better for the middle, but my 50a has held up for 5 years now...... |
Wow, that is some really great info man. You have been a huge help. My little brother and I really appreciate it.
