Removing the A/C.

Ok, so my car is a convertible... and it has A/C. Now, it works alright at the moment, but I autocross, and want to take it out to save weight. I know that it is a pressurized system, and that it needs to be bled so that you dont hurt yourself when removing it... more later.

"Ooops, I accidentally just slit the a/c line with my 'gator knife, clumsy me."
After that, just make sure you move your head away from the engine bay.

I can't believe it the same thing happened to me.

OMG you too? Accidents happen. I felt bad for the atmosphere for a lil bit but forgot about it, till now.

Max777 03-28-2008 05:59 PM

so you just slit the line and duck for cover? That's all? Wow, that is on easy accident!:suspect:

Umm, you guys arent just messing with me, are you? I really dont want to f**k anything up...

djmtsu 03-28-2008 06:02 PM

Well, I did it a little different. I said, "Hey look at this tire valve on the A/C line, I should see if it unscrews with my valve stem tool."

Then I walked away and got some lunch.

Phoenix7 03-28-2008 06:08 PM

naw, that's done on purpose. Ours were environmental accidents. Like Exxon Valdez but no news.\

EDIT:  don't try to hold the tire valve open with your fingers.

Max777 03-28-2008 06:10 PM

Umm, so which line exaclty do I "depresurize at the dealer"? :D Should I tell em to do the bick thick one, or the small thin one?

SoGlow7 03-28-2008 08:39 PM

yeah ive been wanting to remove the ac too, tomorrow ill go make sure the valve on my ac line is nice and loose.. i mean tight?

djmtsu 03-28-2008 09:24 PM

The one one I 'accidentally' removed was on the passenger side near the UIM. Maybe.

Rotary_Rocket_87 03-28-2008 09:30 PM

I got lucky, I just unscrewed one of the hard line fitiings and someone had done the "dirty" part for me, no pressure, just lube. removed everything I could get to (still have the pump, fat hands don't fit well down there with the p/s still there) and called it good.

djmtsu 03-28-2008 09:34 PM

Side note: If you do happen to inadvertently remove the valve from the line, or remove a line, be sure to cover the car, or have a fan blowing away from the majority of the car. That friggin PAG oil will get EVERYWHERE.

Ask me how I know.

SoGlow7 03-28-2008 10:11 PM

how do you know?

Max777 03-29-2008 12:20 AM

Well, I'm thinking 2 things: Wear some nice and thick gloves, and put a huge ass towel in front of one of the schrader valves...

Max777 03-29-2008 11:34 AM

So, uh... today my hand slipped, and I accidentally cut that big thick AC line that is right by the master cylinder. I mean, it like, went all the way through, except that nothing came out... is this normal? Or is my system depressurized already for me?
