Oil temperature
well, i have a gauge sitting around, so I am going to install it with a sandwich plate at the filter. What is the typical oil temperature at operating temp in this location? All the FSM has is oil pressure, no oil temp.
That location is post cooler, so it should be cooler there than if you measure the in the pan. Something in the 190-220 range is usually OK. If you start seeing north of 240 you'll begin to have issues.
So, it should be about 80*C? Good to know. My gauge is metric, which I think is fucking hilarious, along with a metric oil pressure gauge. Gota love canadian parts (weaponx gauges before they quit making them)

I've always wondered why it's generally accepted to pull an oil temp as it goes into the engine. I'm doing it too, but shouldn't we be pulling the temp as it exits the engine, just like the coolant?
technically, we probably should pull both, or before cooler temps, but that opens a whole new can of worms in dealing with leaks.
Why? There are plenty of adapters out there that can easily do it. Especially if you've got some -10 lines. I wouldn't drill/tap the front cover. If I were to go that route, I would weld an 1/8" npt bung onto it

I have mine in the oil pan, no special fittings necessary in my case.
Temps I see so far are 160-170*F. |
