Those old turbo racing engines were insanity. And those tires on the 917!
|
:conehead: Yeah I just eat sleep live breath cars and turbo's :conehead:
Do it as a job teaching people then after work obsess about it, test it, drive it, live it, in RICESP. I just can't get enough of the feeling turbo's give and the insane power levels, everything about them arouses me, the sound the noise, the push in the back, the way the car twists and steers itself under full acceleration.... and I am only using around 550bhp in a 1300kg < as driven car. This sort of stuff (extreme 1500bhp 917/30) type cars should be in all motorsport now, 1000bhp rallycross cars, 1300bhp F1 Turbo cars, 650bhp rally cars, Group 5 touring cars! Not the contrived Green, Air restrictor bullshit crap we have to put up with now. Least you boys have Rod Millen in his Toyota and had IMSA GTP cars for ages, here on this backwards Island **** hole of ex convicts we take the worst of your shit (NASCAR boat anchor engines) and call that premium motorsport! :( FFS in 1973 Porsche proved that concept was DEAD! in CanAm |
I looked at this excellent Ferrari video and instantly got emotional and a bit of wood.

The F40 is just awesome. I remember when I was 12, my old man got me the worst b-day present ever. One of his clients was the general manager of the Ferrari dealership one town over. As a present, for a 12 year old, I got a test drive in a Ferrari 348 that was in the shop for maintanence.... turn's out one of the mechanics was a back-up driver for something... yeah... I got my first hard-on at the age of 12. And it's been a 20 year addiction to speed and handeling. So, while we were waiting for the test drive the manager came out, sat me in an F40, and pronounce to my old man that he thinks that F40 that I was sitting in just sold to a guy in TX for >750,000..... if memory serves, I was 12, and this was literally 20 years ago. But damn...

Pete, if you've never read Mark Donohue's auto biography you'd probably enjoy it. Lot's of personal insight on the development of the 917-10/30.

Also this car and topic of turbo tuning just reinforces to me how much people forget about history. Like today people shitting on about Time Attack this and that like its the best thing in the world. When back in 1972! you had a sub 900kg car that was 2wd and had a responsive and reliable 1500bhp!!! that would and did blow every single CHEV and FORD boat anchor out of the water :smilielol5: Dirty old mechanical injection 6.5:1 compression No intercoolers And only 5.4 liter capacity CD Ignition :) 12.8:1 AFR on simple avgas 1.5bar boost I said a long time ago for Time Attack to be taken seriously especially in a historical context, I would want to see 2.6lt 13B's running 1500bhp and being fitted in 950kg RX7's and then it would only just match what was done 40 years ago!!!! maybe :smilielol5: I guess in 50 years time it might happen. What happened to the world? I blame homosexuals and green peace. |
