Flooded 12a(not with gas)
So I was going to buy a complete 12a that was running before the pull, but after the pull and before my pickup a water main broke where it was stored. The engine was completely submerged. They are now asking $250 for the 12a as is. Seems like a fair price to me if all it would need is to crack it open and replace the seals.
What do you all think? |
I wouldn't pay more than $150....and that is with faith. If it isn't run soon, everything will begin to corrode very quickly internally.
Here is what I would do... Strip it to the block Drain all the oil Flush all the coolant with chemical cleaner Put some oil in the housings and turn it many, many times, repeatedly Use WD40 liberally all over the engine, and even in the housings. (WD40 is a water displacer, that is what the WD stands for) Put it together with new gaskets, and use 20w50 oil. Fire it up. Let it run for a little while, then drain the oil and change the filter again. Might work out. |
I wish I could make a lower offer. The city is giving them 250 for it if I don't buy it. It is also the only even close to running 12a I can find in driving distance. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place for getting my rx7 running again.

If your expecting it to be a runnable engine, I would pass on it. Like DJ says
it may have sucked up a lot of water and now need a tear down and rebuild to fix. Its a crap shoot. |
Aren't 12a's becoming harder to come by? If so and with that in mind, I'ld say get it. It may be worth a shot :dunno:

I know where there is a good running 12a, more than $250, but not a bad price.

Bought it and posted in my build thread. What a pleasant surprise
