I need better spark i tried the 2gen direct fire but it didn't last long. Is anyone running a single msd 6a and ls coils?
Just trying to find a good direct fire set up that will be reliable and handle my holley 600 cause right now my single blaster coil just isn't cutting it:beatdeadhorse5: |

I'm going direct fire with mercury quicksilver coils. Supposedly extremely strong when TTT did coil testing, don't know if they'd work for your specific application, but might want to consider them if you haven't yet.

I've heard about the Jacobs and the mercurys. I'll prolly just end up doing the Jacobs since me and zach have similar set ups. I'll look into the mercurys some as well.
Just seen a few build using ls1/2 coils and wasn't sure if they were as good as the aftermarket. |
LS1 coils suck. Fuck those things. They wet fouled on a rebuilt after 15 minutes of runtime. LS1 coils suck. LS2, from the research I did on the LS1 forums, V8 lamo's are picking up 15hp swapping to LS2 coils. And I found one guy who strapped his truck down, ran it with the LS1 coils, and then without taking the truck off the dyno swapped the LS2 coils in and picked up something like 15rwhp. So there might be something in the LS2 coils, I just haven't had the opportunity to test them back to back like I would prefer to.
Vex is rightm the Quicksilver coils are STOUT units, without a dount, good coils. but big, and they have an internal ignitor and some other internal electrical trickery as well. I still owe C Ludwig a phone call  |
What kind of eletrical trickery ? Like guttin a ignitor or more then that, I'm not the biggest electrical fan so what would be the simpler option

If this helps, here you go.

I'm running HEIs as ignitors and 2 FORD TFI coils and the sparks is excellent.
The HEIs are just standard 4 prong ones (DR100s) and the TFI coils are from the boneyard off of FORD F150 pickups. Its cheap and its a very good spark. I dropped trailing altogether. I have a write up on the other forum with details. If you need to run higher than 8K I would recommend HO HEI and better after market TFI coils or maybe these LS2 thingies folks are talking about here. |
Yeah I like your set-up, I recommend the TFI coils. The coil referenced up top is pretty much the same thing just an aftermarket fancied-up version. In fact those coils actually come with the standard 2-spade style connection now, reason why my 2 older direct fires are screw-on terminals and the newer trailing is what i just mentioned.
