Cell phone coverage at Deals Gap?

How I go about planning my trip up there will depend on if there is cell phone coverage up there or not. Does anyone that has been to DGRR previously have T-mobile, and did you get coverage up there?
thanks in advance

Cell phone coverage at the gap is poor at best.

once you hit the 2 lane going to the dragon (i believe the road is US28...) just turn the phone off and don't even bother trying...

Don't expect any up on th dragon itself. Down in the valleys towards the major towns you will have it.

I could occasionally get a signal at the Crossings and down at the river, everywhere else is dead. The resort is fine, and like others said the roads and towns around it seem fine.

This is with Verizon. When I had T-Mobile, forget about it.

well I live very close... yea its not great signal for sure. Verizon is your best shot here, i dont think your really gonna get much signal if any honestly. but if you were to travel into the bigger town franklin (20 mins away where I live) im sure you would get signal. but dont expect much near the dragon.

I have AT&T. It worked fine in/around the Nantahala lodge last year, which is all I really cared about. I sure as hell won't be taking any calls while driving the dragon. :driving:

there is none. first time i went to the dragon the TN side was still closed from the rockslide so we had to loop around into NC and the only GPS we had was on my phone..... its was the best place to be lost for sure! took about 3-4 hours to get to the dragon from knoxville! even if my GPS was working i would have still taken that long route tho. such an amazing drive

^This. It made me LOL. I have Verizon, and it works everywhere, except when I am driving. Like it is stated above, the roads are a little to busy to be on the phone.

If you are on some type of stand-by, just give your party the phone number at Nantahala Village and keep checking with the person at the desk throughout the event to see if you received any messages. This has worked for me each year. I had two different cell phones last year, and both of them went in and out of service depending on where I was.

I have T-Mobile and it works around the village and on the four-lane portion of Hwy 28. From what I've seen it looks like Verizon does best up there.
