crazy previous owner

Ok guys so I finally got the $ saved up for my rteck and I take the car out before I let it sit. It starts acting crazy, gets stuck in gear revs and bucks. Needless to say I decided to wait on the rtek. The other day I went back to the previous owner to question hm abot his mod. After a few hbours I figured out the problem and told him of my plans. He then told me that the ecu has alredy been "chipped". He said it has a reedom chip. Now I've looked and looked but can't find anything about this. Can some one tell me what the hell he is refering to?

If it's for real...

"REDOM"
It's R.E. Amemiya's line of reprogrammed ECU's.

If you have to ask who "R.E. Amemiya" is then...well...

Okay today I decided to pull the ecu out and I could barely make out a redom sticker. But couldn't see the sticker that should say what trhe ecu is flashed for. Anyone have a way to tell even what type it is?

Open the ECU case up.
There should be a sticker on the EEPROM chip.

Hey sorry for some many q's RETed but I can't find any info in english. I opened up the case and found a metal redom tag over the chip but nothing else. Would the be some form of id number under the tag?

Sometimes the Japan shops will stamp the label with info about the chip like "hi boost" or something like that.
Other times it's just a "version #".
It sounds like yours is just a version #.

With that said, there is very little you can do with a stock ECU reprogram.
Automatic is the elimination of the overboost fuel-cut.
I doubt fuel is tweaked very much, as this isn't very easy to do.
Typically, they adjust the ignition timing to run a little bit more aggressive.

Sorry I can't give you more info other than that.

R.E. Amemiya will not answer any questions unless you can talk to them in Japanese. :(

Thanks yet again you've been a lot of help! Well it looks like I'm still going to have to swap out for an rteck but now I need a stock ecu as well

yeah they have a couple/few different levels. the base like ted says is just removing the fuel&speed cuts.

there is an english reader there, you can click on the english email flag, but unless there is a serial type number on the ECU, they may not be much help.
